Re: Multiverse open for uploading mods

One feature I have always found very useful on xelerus is the ability to search mods by "last updated". This lists the mods by the date that they were last uploaded. It lets you check if a favourite mod has been updated without having to check them all individually. Having this capability on the Mu...

Re: Am I reading SteamSpy numbers right???

What I'd like to do--but I don't have time to do it--is data mine all the player data on the Multiverse. For instance, it should be possible to analyze game epitaph statistics to see what percentage of new players get to a certain system (St Kats' for example) before quitting. I bet it's low, but I'...

Re: 1.8 Alpha 3

Just did a brief scan of API38 and noticed that item drops with components may drop components instead. Are components intended to be limited to consumables and minor items? I ask because Tinkers support components, and I have considered recipes (for Tinkers and VotG foundaries, at least) that incl...

Re: Am I reading SteamSpy numbers right???

That's absolutely wrong. The current refund rate (and it's been consistent since the beginning) is about 5%.

Re: The Transcendence Color Palette VS Other Games

In my opinion, the issue isn't the color palette but rather that screenshots need to be both distinctive and enticing. I think we do need to improve this. I've got a few rough ideas about how to do this: 1. More contrast: I personally like the muted colors of the game. It's a grittier and more reali...

1.8 Alpha 3

Alpha 3 is finally ready! This release is coming in hot, so there are likely to be lots of bugs (I might do a patch if there are severe bugs). This release is mostly focused on API changes for Part II, but there is still lots of good stuff: * Vault of the Galaxy Alpha 3 is ready. This build mostly a...

Re: Forum theme

I made some minor changes to the theme:

* I changed the accent color so that links are brighter.
* I made the section headers small (they use the same accent color, so they were too bright)
* I moved the avatar block to the left of a post instead of the right (I think it is easier to see who posted).

Jerry Pournelle

I'm sad to see the news today that sci-fi author Jerry Pournelle has died. When I was writing Anacreon back in the 80s, Jerry Pournelle had a column in BYTE magazine called Chaos Manor, in which he talked about whatever was on his mind, but mostly reviewed the PC software and hardware that he was ex...

There should be a way for people other than George to review submitted mods in case he is too busy to check them.
Absolutely. I'm working on setting that up, but it needs a bit more core on the Multiverse.

Wait, it is manual download or just adding to collection and needs run Transcendence to download it?
Transcendence will automatically download it the next time it runs (once it is added to your collection).

We're going to need a way to delete collection items for sure now, in case of mod conflicts breaking the game.
Yeah, definitely. That's something I'm working on for 1.8.

First question: What about for regdevs not wanting to use their registered UNID prefixes? I mean, I have The Backroads under 0xA010, but what about for using my unregistered 0xDCC8 prefix for unregistered mods?
You can certainly use your unregistered prefix for unregistered mods.

Multiverse open for uploading mods

I've made a few changes to the Multiverse to allow anyone to upload mods to. There are a few advantages to uploading mods to the Multiverse (as opposed to Xelerus). 1. The mods will appear in the main catalog page (after official mods). This should give mods more visibility, since links in the game ...

Re: Changing ships at shipyards

There are some great ideas on this thread. In terms of game mechanics, I see two primary advantages to changing ships: 1. Access to new mechanics not available in existing ship classes. For example, I think capital ships (even at the low end) could have different mechanics, such as point-and-click c...
