Re: Damage Adjustment Curves

Looking at the curve, it seems like the TeV9 would have about the same effectiveness against the Ares as before. I wonder - would it work for damage curves to be a bit flatter initially, rather than towards the middle? This would make the lower level armors more viable(as they wouldn't be obsolete r...

Re: Armor balance discussion

As for things being used playing a huge part of balance, by that reasoning, laser resistance should be worth significantly more than kinetic resistance because the vast majority of enemies that appear in missions at low levels (and in Charon) is Charon Pirates. Kinetics get used by Centauri (less i...

Re: Damage Adjustment Curves

It's worth looking at a some real situations here. Right now, what this would affect is the dropoff in effectiveness of some weapons towards the end of the UT, in particular the omni turbo/xray and the Dual Flenser. Right now, these weapons take long enough to kill a Sandstorm that they're a moderat...

Re: Armor balance discussion

The only change that would introduce would be the addition of very many largely meaningless numbers to the interface(as, as you said, most high level ships would have to have arbitrarily high resistance to low level damage types) and forcing modders to specify said large numbers for every new piece ...

Re: Armor balance discussion

Overall, that's a decent summary - we need to focus on the qualitative as well as the quantitative. Focusing on the factions using said armor is a good trend to continue. Seeing the formula used would also be helpful, even if it might lead to over-analysis. Kiting a Ventari Destroyer is possible no ...

Re: Armor balance discussion

If a device gets disrupted while already ionized, it takes permanent damage instead Wasn't that a glitch that was fixed a few versions ago? I've never seen it happen. At any rate, Ventari destroyers need to be more difficult to kite if device disruption is intended to be a threat. Taking damage fro...

Re: Armor balance discussion

That's a good point. The issues with obsolete damage types come largely from the movement of groups originating in the New Beyond over to the Ungoverned Territories, where they really don't fit. The Sapiens, Anarchists, and Heliotropes would be perfectly balanced back in the region they were created...

Re: Armor balance discussion

I have to disagree on getting rid of reflect and the like. It's far from a win button as it is, and it's one of the few exciting features that armor presently has. If all armor choice is is comparing numbers, most people aren't going to like it as much. I've used the reflect coatings and armors, and...

Re: 1 EI7000, 3 Vikings, 3 Corsair..grab popcorn.

The plasma explosion of Ares Shipyards isn't particularly dangerous. It's a series of particles rather than a radius effect, so if you sit on the center where they all spawn from, of course you'll take an enormous amount of damage. If you sit to the side of the station, you'll hardly take any damage...

Re: 1 EI7000, 3 Vikings, 3 Corsair..grab popcorn.

Starcannons are pretty weak, mind you. Even before the nerf, they were a very niche weapon. Regarding the Korolov - Charon balance, it's probably more sensible to buff the pirates. Power creep has left them out quite a bit, after all. Tone down the firerateadj, make the Corsair Is a bit more surviva...

Re: Armor balance discussion

I notice most of the high level armors are negative. While a few could use improvement, I'd say that overall, mid - late game armor is tougher than it ought to be - shields could use greater importance, given that, even in a Sapphire, I've always found upgraded shields more trouble than they tend to...

Yeah, sticky keys has long been an unpleasant feature of Windows. Not sure why they keep it around - I've yet to meet anyone who actually uses it.

Re: Randomize wingman words

If there isn't a specific tag for wingmen losing their shields, you can use <OnShieldDown> in the events section of their shield to jury rig it.You'll need to change it to the normal version of the shield when the wingman dies. If there isn't already a better way to do this that I was unable to find...

Re: Oracus & Domina I: The March of the Heretic

Found a bug - the starting station's harass attack can kill you in the middle of the opening dialogue. Making the opening battle a bit smaller and shorter could reduce the risk of this, as could ordering threats to gate out once the freighter arrives. You may want to update the Penitent ship graphic...

Re: Wingman Behavior

You mean the Fleet wingmen? It might be cool if they repaired when close to the CSC, but given that they're meant to be temporary, and don't have the huge shield - armor ratio that the more permanent wingmen have, that might cause issues. Might work as a custom order, once the issues with friendly f...
