Re: Transcendence Picture thread

Kudos to the Corsair I that somehow made it to CC endgame space. That's one determined pirate.

Re: list splitting ship finding query

I agree that sorting by sovereign would be unintuitive, especially for ships that appear as both friendlies and enemies. Setting up a standard alphabetically sorted list on ships' display names seems like the best way to handle this. If you want to reduce list size, splitting it into A-M and N-Z wou...

Re: Erosion on Mars has uncovered large subterranean ice

Very interesting. Terraforming Mars is definitely a ways away, but this makes it a bit more feasible.

Re: 2017 Annual Report

The problem with heavy weaponry is that it's inherently better against smaller craft as well. That's not the case. Faster firing weapons, and weapons with faster projectiles, are significantly harder to avoid. While heavy weaponry in the game's current iteration is incredibly OP, there's nothing in...

Re: 2017 Annual Report

It's true you could make ship equipment scale in size and power appropriately with ship size, but that would just force the player to switch to a very slow ship in order to be able to fight capital ships. I'm not saying restrict all powerful equipment to heavy ships, I'm saying to make sure that ar...

Re: 2017 Annual Report

The issue is that gameplay revolves around gunships being able to destroy battleships. It's based off of Star Control, where ships are qualitatively extremely different but functionally capable of fighting each other on even ground. The issue here is that ships aren't qualitatively different enough....

Re: Some questions about engine capabilities

1. Any plans of moving away from sprite based? Is it even possible? I doubt it, given that we get these sprites from 3D models. There was a mod with vector images, but they were premade in a vector image editor, and were completely 2D. 2. Is it possible to add the zoom feature used on the star maps...

Re: 1.8 Alpha 4 is ready!

Is there a list of the new features in this version, e.g. the new Point Juno image and the trading computer? I couldn't find one on Ministry, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Edit: I'm also having trouble finding a download. Could you add a link to alpha posts?

Re: Has there been a discussion on friendly fire mechanics?

It's mostly an issue with AI. If the Dwarg were programmed to move perpendicular to the line between them and the player whenever he's facing them, it'd be fixed easily enough. Likewise, the Point Juno fleet AI is pretty terrible - they essentially just sit there and occasionally shoot at things tha...

Re: Bringing any gameplay systems over from expansions?

I don't use armor nanoforge either - crafted equipment isn't ever really worth the time, given the fact that pretty much every item in the game can be looted or bought in a single playthrough, and money isn't really an object. Crafting only makes sense in games where either (good) equipment is spars...

Re: Bringing any gameplay systems over from expansions?

Armor nanoforge is similar to the tinkers, which are already present. You can mine ore and use it to build things there. Ore will also be used in Part II crafting. So no worries there, it's coming to the base game, just in a different form. Auton balance in general has been in need of adjustment for...

Re: Transcendence 1.7 Released!

The current trick is to thin out the defenders(the turrets are never replaced), and then level the station with a high DPS, high WMD weapon. While it's good to see the old 'hit it a few times with a howitzer, run off, then do it again when the defenders wander back home' exploit fixed, I can think o...

Re: Transcendence 1.7 Released!

The player can outrepair damage sources - patcher arms and the Iocrym equivalent can serve this role. That said, balancing station attacks could be better done by reducing the range/accuracy of some anti - station weapons, and giving station guards the speed and persistence necessary to chase down a...

Re: The decline in the importance of stealth tech

Re: The decline in the importance of stealth tech A lot of people have been predicting such a change for a while now - 'truck'-style attack aircraft loaded down with ECMs and other modular defenses are a lot easier to maintain and build than advanced stealth fighters, and, as components improve ove...
