Normally you can fire only one primary weapon and a launcher at the same time. If you want to shoot more weapons at once you can use linked-fire weapons. These fire along with your primary weapon. There's an exploit with the Voss Und Szell stations: they buy consumables at a 50% markup but sell them at a 20% markup. This means you can sell some rice, buy it back then sell it back to them again for profit!

The first new mission from Benedict can be punishing if you're still relying on a SmartCannon+missiles, which is quite likely if you get the mission before Rigel Aurelius.

Each weapon has its use in particular situations, but you'll want at least one with WMD 5 or higher as stations become hard to kill without one.
