Re: 1 EI7000, 3 Vikings, 3 Corsair..grab popcorn.

KM500 Stilletos? You're still using the light NAMI launcher against Ares ships and stations? No wonder you're having trouble. ;) Blast damage is completely out of date at this point in the game and KM500s don't do much damage per-hit anyway. Try using Red Strelkas, or if you can get your hands on th...

Speaking as someone who's only played 1.6 and 1.7, I don't find stations to be that hard to crack, you just need to bring enough WMD to the party. Most launchers will do plenty of WMD to destroy stations, or failing that there's plenty of primary weapons that can do the job too, just more slowly. Th...

Re: Armor balance discussion

Seems like armor HP should be calculated as effective HP against weapons whose damage type is equal or lesser than the armor's level? Or something along those lines, anyway. It's pretty easy to get armor that's nearly immune to particle or lesser damage types, for example, which renders a lot of mid...

Re: Not sure if this is bug or feature

Yeah, sticky keys has long been an unpleasant feature of Windows. Not sure why they keep it around - I've yet to meet anyone who actually uses it. They're a vital accessibility feature for people with poor coordination, hand tremors, missing hands, etc. If you can only press one key at a time, you ...

Re: Structure of an essay

Speaking as a software developer, effective writing is one of my more valuable skills, and I'm talking about English, not code. So much of teamwork is discussing what to do, and being able to compose a coherent and persuasive argument in text is a great way to convince people that your proposals wil...

Re: (Resurfacing) New ship in the works!

Honestly the textures you're using here don't look half-bad. I'd definitely err on the side of simpler rather than more complex textures, since the mesh itself provides plenty of visual complexity. One or two material colors for the hull (base hull color plus decal?), one or two for engines, turrets...

Re: trancendence online

I would be in absolute shock if online multiplayer were implemented for Transcendence. Multiplayer is a huge feature that is unbelievably difficult to implement well, especially in realtime. It's also not the kind of thing you can just retrofit onto a singleplayer game. I'm sure you and many other p...

Re: Laser/particle diffusion

...The other issue is that a lot of people like kiting. And kiting exacerbates the issue massively. When the game throws supercaps at you that are nonetheless quite agile and able to bring their incredibly punishing main weapons to bear on your puny little ship... As far as I can tell the only real...

Re: Inputting straight from the keyboard query

You know what'd also be nice? A hotkey you could hit for "apply armor patch to most-damaged armor".

Then again, there's a certain amount of tension added to the game when you have to scroll through the menu in the middle of a fight...

Re: Laser/particle diffusion

Ultimately the game doesn't need to be realistic to this level. Rather than killing off fancy laser effects in favor of shot speed and making attenuation effects...we need features that help players learn to actually aim the damned things. Convenience and training over gimmicks and un-needed rewrit...

Re: Laser/particle diffusion

While not too difficult to implement now while lasers are bullets, it may be impractical (not necessarily impossible) after they become hitscan-like continuousBeams. How do you figure? We don't need to draw a beam that gradually gets wider as its distance from the origination point increases, nor d...

Laser/particle diffusion

At the moment, lasers and particles have a "cliff-like" maximum range -- they deal full damage up until they hit their range limit, at which point the projectile disappears. As a fun way to differentiate them from other projectile types, we could replace that with a diffusion system, where their pro...

Re: Little known facts that could help your game

Buying limits. If you sell an number of items to a station it won't buy the same number again. It will only buy if you offer more than it now has in stock. This isn't the behavior I've noticed. As I was discussing with PM elsewhere, currently it's more like stations will scale how much they offer f...

Re: Solar items increase reactor efficiency instead of refueling

In my first game of Transcendence, I was burned hard by buying limits, and did not make much money. Combined with constant fuel drain, I had trouble keeping my ship fueled up, let alone upgrading it. I promptly restarted my first game. My first game was Nethack in space, Wizard starving to death. I...

Re: Solar items increase reactor efficiency instead of refueling

My very first game I got into fuel trouble, but that was because I spent all of my money (including selling most of the contents of my hold) to buy a new reactor so I could power a new gun...not realizing that new reactors are empty to start. Selling the old reactor got me some fuel but not enough t...
