I found a Ringer right next to an Ares shipyard. And trashed ships *everywhere*. Oh the to-a-first-approximation-humanity! I, of course, immediately did my part to ensure no salvage went to waste. Is there anything that implies that gate network topology corresponds to realspace topology? Or to put it another way, any reason that a given gate doesn't go halfway across the galaxy instead of next door? A few more points: Oracus is identified as the threat in the QZ (Maryams) I had a thought that perhaps instigating a breakout might be a way for Domina to encourage the Sterilization Plan, but apparently that is actually well underway already... a bit too much research and I nuke my own pet theory 8...

That would actually indicate a balance error. You should require level 9 gear for station saving in Heretic. Hey I had some L9 gear, just not shields or reactors... Ok, it is possible to deal with Heretic with a SN2500... But since I debug-spawned my equipment and jumped straight to the end system I need a vanilla playthrough before I claim my superhuman piloting skillz 8-)

I'd argue that the Hyperion isn't an issue anyway- you mainly get it from the Ringers, and they don't care if you are military or not. Its the 500MW mark that is hard- the only guaranteed way to get one is via the CSCs, and pretty much all the shops at that stage of the game *do* pay attention to yo...

I would think the game just doesn't mention station grade reactors because they are far to large to fit into the small starships the player uses. Otherwise we are talking the 24th century equivalent of running an industrial district off a car engine...
