it allows you to create more realistic looking models.. you can add a lot of the 'feel' that your basic renders won't be able to give you. such things as fading paint, brushed metal, the normal scratches and nicks you get on most metallic objects Wait, so it makes everything look broken and unmaint...

Okay, the generator thing looks awesome now, but I think the whole thing looks a bit Flash-Gordon-ey... :|

Wow, that must have a high poly count O_o I guess your godlike processor helps, though :P
I think the generator thing would look better if it just had more detail, and was slightly larger.

Btw, for screenshots like that you can turn off the grid+axes.

That's incredibly creepy, though the mouth isn't quite right in some places. And I'd have to watch it in a higher resolution before I really decide just how it makes me feel.

Upon closer inspection, they're exactly the same image :| I'll try downloading it again.

Edit: Yup, same file size and resolution. Two big, black rectangles with half-spheres in the corner. Did you accidentally zip two of the same image?
