Hmm... Try running .98c to see if it does the same thing. DirectX is not supported by Linux, so that won't do anything I say to run .98c as Linux finds a different (most likely OpenGL) display system and uses it in place of Direct X, and maybe Linux will like that better than GDI. Now, I've begun to mod something like this, but...
Anyways, why not do multiple versions of each ship with different armor/weapons/shields? Just a name and description change away (and a few new entities).
