There were at least two undocumented features (not mentioned in the API spec) added in the 1.8 alphas. Firstly, the "healer" points that biotech ships use are hardcoded into the engine. As I said on the IRC, one of the most flagrant problems with current PD is that the Longreach is basically an omnidirectional Flenser relativistic cannon that costs almost 6x as much but isn't even as good as the Flenser. It doesn't have that good of a range bonus even though it's called Long reach ...
