Now that RC4 is released, I'd like to give people an update of what the future holds.

First of all, I am extremely happy with all the feedback that you've given throughout the RC releases. Truly, there is no way that Transcendence would be anywhere near this level of quality without all your help.

I think with RC4 we are very very close to a 1.0 release, but I want your help to make sure. In playing RC4, please make a special note of any bugs or problems and post them to the forums or to Trac.

After playing RC4, I would like people to give me a go/no-go for a 1.0 release. Reply to this note saying either that we should go for the 1.0 release or that we should wait until xyz is fixed (where xyz is a critical bug that many players will encounter).

What does it mean for 1.0 to be released? In some sense, nothing will change: I will continue working on new features and making balance changes and bug fixes. There will be a 1.0a release and a 1.1 release.

But having 1.0 as a finished game will also be a good point to start promoting the game more. I will probably spend some time contacting various web sites to get reviews.

More importantly, after 1.0 is released I will begin working on post-Heretic content. Don't expect much very soon, but over the coming year (and beyond) we will finally venture outside of Human Space and encounter more of the Ancient Races of the galaxy.

Thanks again for everything you've all done to get the game to this point. I'm looking forward to getting to 1.0 and beyond!

sadly thumbs down.
The messed up color of the high score list looks horrible. (and crashed it once)
see http://wiki.neurohack.com/transcendence/trac/ticket/246

also not as important (but still important to me) but do you still plan on doing the other milestone 1.0 tickets?
Crying is not a proper retort!

I confirmed that bug, so its not an isolated incident. It would cycle between purple and light green, with the 'selection' (for lack of a better term) growing brighter and brighter until it reached pure white and reset itself to totally transparent, and then began to cycle back around.

If you need a screen-recorded video, I can do that.

//edit//
I /think/ I may have identified the source of this bug: It *seems* to be related to the green graphics artifacts with transparent effects (like some weapon effects I made, or exhaust effects, both stock and aeonic's).
I'm not entirely positive about my hypothesis though, but its something worth looking in to.

Oops! I guess I should have tried that.

Thanks, I see the problem.

Edit: I've re-uploaded RC4 with the fix, since it was trivial (an uninitialized variable that shows up only in release mode).

As for the other 1.0 tickets, I don't know yet--it depends on how many other critical bugs RC4 has.

XD
thanks! ^^

Any idea if this fixes the same green-artifact issue that some graphics were having? Or were they sepparate bugs with similar symptoms?
I could just test it out tomm independently with godmod I suppose.

They were totally independent, unfortunately.

FYI: Looks like I'll have to do an RC5. I fixed a crash bug when gating into a system caused by the new Teraton defenders code.

That sounds like the bug I was about to report:

01/02/2010 19:52:29 Start logging session
01/02/2010 19:52:29 Transcendence 1.0 RC4
01/02/2010 21:05:12 Error loading object
01/02/2010 21:05:12 Unable to load system: 1c
01/02/2010 21:05:12 Error loading system: Umi (4ecc4)
01/02/2010 21:05:29 Unable to continue due to program error

program state: enter stargate, loading destination systemgame state: entering stargate

(it occurred when return to a system in which I'd been fighting teratons)

Thanks for all the work you've put into making Transcendence a great game!

Yeah, that looks like the same symptom. It should be fixed in RC5.
