You asked me to post some suggestions for TransData. I didn't know where else to post them, so here they are:

As for Transcendence itself, while I am thinking of it, I would like to propose a sort of \overrides directory, where things that are supposed to replace vanilla objects/resources (especially sound and image files) could be placed (and would take precedence over files within the .tdb files). Mods could still take precedence over these, but it would be a way of allowing the community to improve game graphics and sounds, without needing to build a mod or extension to do so. (One example would be the graphics from the mod that gives weapons and ammo that currently all look alike, their own individual image.) [...]
This, 100% this, pretty much the only reason I have miningpack in my games is just for the distinguishable fuel and ore graphics.

Have to say I don't like the auto remove device feature. I would much rather pick the device to be removed if any. If I'm out of room I need to know that, not just have things disappear.
I find that Trans doesn't like double clicking on saved games as much as clicking on the game and hitting Ok.

Ok!!!!
last night I finally had some time to try the new release :)
I also got a co-worker to try it too :)

besides being killed ( both of us , mine was because I was explaining things and not paying attention : his was just a NooB Death) it was very nice.

Noticed one thing : Independent Merchants ( the armed transports w/ Zulu escorts ) docked at a destroyed station.

AND again, the Occupied Stations are showing up too close other stations where defenders or traffic are picking off the Raiders.
my co-worker was able to free one station with a Lone Raider , the others had been taken out by the nearest station.

Code: Select all

			locationCriteria=	"+planetary,-asteroids"
to me, the only " fix " is to order the station by code to generate away from everything else or change it's attribute to push the station away.

Code: Select all

			locationCriteria=	"-planetary,+asteroids"
But other then that, reaching STK with a Class2 shield was not unusual :)

-The first two times I tried to start a game, Transcendence crashed when I clicked OK at the adventure select screen. I had already waited for the visible indication that it was downloading something to go away. Windows reported this:

I logged out of Multiverse and it started working and continued after I logged back in.

-Windows also told me that it stopped working after I clicked quit once.

-The install device screen tells you that your ship cannot support any more devices when it means that you already have a device of the same type installed (but have empty slots).

-Not sure if this is a bug, but the analyzer told me it isn't sophisticated enough to analyze a level I barrel.

-I assume that once missions are ported to the new system, it will be possible to have more than one active, rather than them not being offered until you complete your current one or replacing your current one. If so, it would be handy to be able to toggle showing the destination from the mission screen.

I noticed this earlier (and I think it's a general issue, not caused by CC)

[attached]

As you can see there are 5 sets of T31 + escorts all trying to dock at the same armor dealer but being unable to because of the reserved one slot for the player.

It's not a bi deal but it breaks immersion when 10% of the ships in st. kats all want to dock at the same station and are prowling back and forth on the same 120 ls long strip like too many airplanes above Heathrow airport.
from experience, for some reason this happens most often with armor dealers and no other stations, I wonder why.

I noticed this too and dont really like the idea of a reserved slot for the player anyways. How about sending a random ship somewhere else (another station/gate) if the player attempts to dock and there is no free slot?

A ship could leave whenever there are no empty slots. Also, ships that are guarding could patrol rather than just sitting there docked.

I haven't had the wrong message when installing devices again. It definitely happened when I was installing a shield at a station in Eridani.

Some level 1 unidentified barrels are actually level 4, but I'm pretty sure the analyzer was unable to analyze level 3 repairing nanos. Also, it's pretty silly that it can't identify radioactive waste.

And I got the same crash as before when attempting to load once.

I was ferian mining and noticed that after destroying a ferian base I was attacked but most of the ferians for that base, although they turned red, didn't attack me. They just went about their normal business of mining for a base that was gone.

Okay, this seems to be a major bug, but doesn't show up unless you're a save-scummer like me (or have other programs like chat programs running in the background).

I have had Transcendence 1.2 Beta 3 crash on me, every time I am at the main screen (just after you start Transcendence or Save/Quit to Main Menu), and <Alt-TAB> to change to another program, then <Alt-TAB> back to Transcendence, the game crashes when I try to load a saved game, unless I first click somewhere on the screen (not on a button). This happens whether I'm playing with Corporate Command every time, but does not seem to affect Vanilla Transcendence.

EDIT: It does not seem to happen every time, or if you have a saved game for both Corporate Command and Vanilla in the Transcendence directory. The Debug.log is no help, as the game stops working before anything is written to it (logging session does not close).

Also, it seems that, no matter how many times I start a new game, the first station I can trade commodities at (Starton Eridani or Icarus Station), if there is only one ROM available, it invariably seems to be the one that damages your display (temporarily), or if there is more than one, then one of them seems to almost always be this ROM. Is this ROM programmed to show up almost every time at these stations? (If it's not this one, it seems to be an Autopilot ROM, which you already have.)

EDIT: Okay, just had a Corporate Command start that did not have that ROM, but still, out of 20+ new games, that ROM seemed to come up every time, so it seems to have a high probability of showing up.

EDIT: I started digging through the code, and am having trouble figuring out how the game determines which ROMs to put on these stations. Is it possible to get an explanation from George or someone, as to how the game determines which ROMs are there at game start? So far, what I can figure out is Starton Eridani starts out with (20 x 2) random items of level 2-4, and 5 random items of level 1-3, but don't see anything in that code that specifically places any ROMs there.

I'd love to comment on this, but I can't because I don't have Corporate Command...

Could you show me how to get a copy? I'd like one, too!

There's two things that affect items spawn chance: One is it's rarity, which is specified in the item's code. There's common, uncommon, rare, veryrare, and notrandom. The other is the station's preference. This is what you observed for Starton Eridani, the number of types of item it'll have in it's inventory.
Yes, look at my avatar, I have a wyvera type ship.

So, it seems that the station has a limited number of items of the level it's looking for, in the ROM category, and so those items appear to be showing up more frequently. The Autopilot ROM seems rather redundant, unless you have a damaged Autopilot, for some reason.

And, like I said before, it's not just in CC, but in Vanilla as well, that we see this (and that's where I first noticed it).

George recently let me know he was able to find the cause for that crash that seems to happen randomly when loading a saved game. He said there had to be a ship in the intro screen that makes use of the new blast weapon firing effect. Otherwise loading a game could fail.
I really would like to hear the full story how George did track this one down when beta 4 is probably ready in near future :D
