TheLoneWolf wrote:CHAPTER 4:- In A Pit Of Fire

"Missiles away!" I cried.
My squad began firing missile upon missile, all of them deadly XM900s.

The missiles weren't intercepted and hit the Ares hard, indicating that we had achieved the element of surprise.

But the Ares were waiting. They had thought of us to pull off the same freighter decoy. They had never thought their bait would be gone. Again, some of the Ares ships escape to the edge as they faced our fire.

Then suddenly, "Reapers! I'm catching large Ares signals emerging from the nebula behind the Polar! Stick to the plan! Katanas on mine! Lets pick off that Tundra!" I cried.
"ROGER!" they cried in unison.

The missiles were devastating the weak line the Ares had left behind. The Polar was already crippled.

"Change of plan! We hit the swarm and then get the hel..." I was cut short by a devastating blow to my shield. Positron.
"CHASM!" on of my team members shouted.
"I see it! You guys hit the swarm! I'm going after the Chasm!"

My squad's Katanas were slowly picking on the distant enemies, while an occaisonal XM900 dissipated a gathering swarm. They were not letting the Ares form up, but some were still managing to sneak up forward and land a few shots before erupting into spacedust. Their deflectors were holding up pretty well too.

"Its you and me now!" I thought to myself as I started blasting the Chasm with Katana shots, and XM900s. It was constantly dodging my shots, but the speed of the Katana shots made sure that it was very hard. Its Positron weapon was going very hard on my shields. We had nothing that offered any resistance to it. It would make quick game of me if my shields collapsed. But here I was, grinding at it like hell. My Katana dispatched the shields. I couldn't do much with my missiles on this ship, as its armour resisted my attacks, but my Katana was extremely effective. After 5min, it was no more.

I shifted my attention back to the mission.
"We are getting slaughtered si..."
I fired a long stream of Katanas and a couple of missiles to both kill a squad of Sandstorms and destroy a Tundra.
"Hit and run complete! Form up, V formation." I sighed.

They began one last volley to distract the Ares as we made our retreat.

And I just passed by one of the anomalists. It turned with my ship, as if watching it. I made no move. And we hurried away.

"I passed close by one, Helios. And it just stood watch." I told him afterwards during debrief.
"These ships are strange...These anomalists...These watchers."
"Yeah. And because of this, these watchers have gained my attention. I'll now be at them everyday. Next mission tomorrow."
"I'll inform you if a mission opportunity emerges."
"Good night, Helios."

"One coffee. Strong" I ordered as usual. I wasn't going to sleep. I was thinking the possibilities over and over again. Ares never behave as such. These watchers were just sitting there in., A CIRCLE! Then it hit me! They weren't f&%$ing around, but forming an array to collect battle data! But then my hopes went down again. It wasn't proving our theory. It was just another Ares technique. I was frustated, but after my first sip, became my calm (and cold) self again.

Then the signal came.

After about two uneventful weeks of sitting around the CSC, the Ares decided to contact us. Or rather me. Then it hit me again. They weren't collecting battle data, but were trying to discern my signature! And then they contacted the Antartica through my ship. The transmission was short. It just declared "Peace...trac...us..." obviously my ship's relay device needed work. I replied them with a boolean value, 1. It meant true. True translated to ok for them. And then we lay in wait for another sign.

"Taylor! Its a disaster! The CW have found the location of the Outpost! The one that contacted us! They have sent over a force to destroy it!" Helios suddenly bust into my cabin a week before Lone Wolf Walking.
I rose up with a start and began running off to my Brit, still in my half pants.
"Oye Taylor" Helios called behind me "Where the f@&$ do you think you are going?"
"To alert them! They are our only hope!" I cried back.
"You will get shredded to pieces by the Ares fleet! And even if you survive that, you'd be declared traitor!"
"Better to die a traitor" I began with a smile "than to lose our only hope."

I started my engines, and at full throttle, started towards the source of the anomaly.

I didn't know where I was going...

It was either a bed of feathers...

Or...

A pit of fire...

Almost there.... Once you reach Lone Wolf Walking I'll be able to write what about happened after he was captured by the Ares Phobos Commander.
God I'm having fun reading this!
"Umm, I'm sorry I just killed your officer Akira, but he was getting on my nerves''
"Can I take his ship now?"

Calvin E. Taylor to Akira Gorbachev, the daughter of Ares Chief Admiral Vasily Gorbachev, after brutally killing one of her Tundra pilots.

CHAPTER 5 EPILOGUE 1

"Taylor. The task force has arrived. And I see no nice faces." Helios beamed to me.
"Like what?" I asked him back.
"Like those guys I personally voted to be executed! Rapers, cutthroats, deserters, pirates, traitors! 10 in total! 1 Brit, 2 Cent Xs, and 6 Cents!"
"Obviously Anderson was stocking up on assholes as his professional task force. We now know why. To counter us. The enemies in his own institution. The pawns that just won't move."
"Exactly, Taylor! Now listen up! They would be going for you, or rather the Ares, in an hour! You better hurry!"
"I'm 10min short of the nebula, Helios. I'll now cut it."
"Good luck!"

10min later, I found the nebula bearing on me, slowing me down and disrupting my signals.

CHAPTER 5 EPILOGUE 2

Suddenly, the nebula came to an end. If I had read the starmaps correctly, the nebula was bound for 2hr more. But it had ended into...another anomaly.

Deep into the heart of the nebula, was what I later discovered to be known as 'The Oasis'.

It was a packet of clean space deep into the nebula. At its centre, was a planet. In the planet's orbit, I found four Ares outposts. Three were revolving around a fourth in their centre, which was rather a large Outpost. Numerous hyperlinks connected the massive structures as it revolved around the planet.

Suddenly, Positron shots began to hammer at my shields. Numerous sentries, half hidden by the nebula, had began firing at me.

I didn't stop. I had a mission to complete.

My shields were out in a minute. My armour was going down. Then came a Tundra. It prepared to fire a micronuke at me. 60% the LS was too much. I was going down soon.

And the watchers observed.

CHAPTER 5 EPILOGUE 3

Suddenly, tens of Ares ships began to form up around me, completely stopping the barrage.

I was saved by the watchers.

They slowly began to escort me to the stations, the Tundra following closely behind.

CHAPTER 5:- The Way That Ice Burns

We landed inside a the middle station. I quickly exited my Brit as Ares ships landed around me. The Tundra captain eyed me with a scorn, while the watchers stood in glee, as artists finally adoring their masterpieces.

Suddenly, soldiers in standard Ares armour came into the chamber with the Tundra pilot, escorted me to the top of the outpost, into a cabin overlooking everything.

I entered the cabin to find a chair turned to the other side. In the front of the chair (towards me) was a pure mahogany desk with the Ares symbol embedded inside.

The Tundra captain said something in the Styris language, which I knew little of. But I was able to discern some words that roughly translated to "He has come."

As the chair turned, I came face to face with a rather beautiful young woman. She had pale blonde hair that went well beyond her shoulders. She was reading a set of documents, with her slender fingers curled around the holder. She gave a quick look, and then continued reading. At that moment, I was able to catch her liquid grey-green eyes looking directly into me.

I was looking directly at her when my instinct rose.

It all happened under a second.

The Tundra pilot aimed a punch directly at my gut, but I quickly dodged. He hadn't anticipated such a move. I then suddenly grabbed his head, and with the help of his own momentum, smashed it hard on the desk with minimal effort. He gave a yell full of agony and I sensed charged weapons rise to my head.

I slowly withdrew both my hands to the back of my head. Standing in front of her, I was glad that I had put on my clothes in my Brit.

"Just who the f@&$ are you?" the now recovered Tundra pilot asked me.
"Lieutenant Taylor, Commonwealth Fleet, Officer First Class." I replied proudly. Somehow I knew that she knew my rank.

"An officer!" the bewildered Tundra pilot began at the woman "We have a far greater threat in this guy!"
Her slender body gracefully rose from the chair, and completely ignoring the Tundra pilot, she walked to the door.

"We need to take a walk, Lt. Taylor." she said in a soft and clear voice. She had no Russian accent, but clear control over her english, just like us. I was drawn to obey her and walked out of the door behind her.

I followed her into a hyperlink to the next outpost. There, when I reached her, I found her looking at her people down in the habitats with a smile. I joined her as a gust of wind gently stroked her hair. I found myself looking at a very beautiful sight. Carefully planned streets and buildings were laid down neatly in the outpost. There was a park even, in which many small children were playing.

She suddenly looked at me.
"Where are my manners!" she began "I am Akira Gorbachev, the daughter of Admiral Vasiley Gorbachev of the Ares Orthodoxy." she completed with a formal bow to me.
"And I. I am Calvin Edward Taylor," I said, making a curtsey. I dare not forget my manners in front of her.

"I have questions, Ms. Gorbachev" I began with highest respect I could muster.
"I prefer to go by Akira, Mr. Taylor" she replied.
"Alright..." somehow I couldn't call her by her first name, but then I diverted my gaze to the outpost.

"It was your group who scouted me, isn't it?" I asked as another gust seeped through my hair. I was still wearing my mask, but decided not to remove it.
"Yeah. You got our interest... But why have you come here?" she asked me.

Then it hit me back...
The reason I had come...
The Task Force...

"AKIRA!" I blasted out. She was taken aback by my sudden outburst.
"A CW task force is coming to take this place out! I had come to warn you!" I declared.

She became grim, but never doubted me.
"Everybody clear the stations! Code Red!" she cried into her transmitter.

"You are...abandoning?" I asked her bewildered.

She motioned with her hand towards the helpless crowd that had assembled.
"These are my people, Taylor. And I have to save them! My father, the greatest tactician we have, is gone far away! We lack a leader! I am not capable...capable to lead my warriors into battle! Facing this task force would be...would be suicide..." sorrow swelled in her eyes.

I looked at them. They were children. Senior citizens. Fathers. Mothers. All common, innocent people. They were not mass murderers. They were as scared of the CW as we of them. They were not the ones fighting the war, but they were obviously having the worst of it.

Then I looked at Akira. She seemed more of a girl than the woman I had seen before. She was bearing a huge responsibility. It was too much. It was visibily taking its toll on her.

She gave me another sorrowful look with her eyes. Tears of anger as well as gloom were swelling in them.

That look had pierced me right into my soul...

And then I said it...
The turning point of my life...
In just some plain words...

If my heart had stopped beating long ago, it had started again today...

"I'll lead your warriors into battle, Akira!" I declared.

Akira.... hmmm interesting.

I'm wondering if you'll use in the CW vs Ares war when we start. Let's see, I'll probably pit Nova's Wolfen against her.

I was hoping that would not come :/

Lets first put the lore in place, then we will shape our fics according to our war. I'm still to decide upon a solid TBS system.

Enjoy the fic till then!
