Okay. I've finally reached the CSC Asia, and have done a few missions assigned to me. I just finished the escort a convoy mission, leading a small fleet of Centurions. Mission complete (minus some of the small craft and one super freighter, not to mention I'm the only surviving fleet member).
Have I missed something? It seems the easiest thing to have done was to immediately destroy my fleet companions. They did nothing but get in the way, hovering around me like Zoanthrope raiders following the strong. They shot at nothing, unlike friendly Zoanthropes, and I'm sure most of the fleet casualties were from me trying to shoot down actual hostiles and the centurions getting in my way.
Is this normal? Is there some way to command them that I missed? The usual command for opening up a channel for autons didn't work. Although, come to think of it, I'm running a quantum CPU, and I used one memory cube with the result of "no carrier signal". Was that permanent? Anyone else encountered this? Maybe I should buy an auton and see if I can communicate with it.
Whew! Aside from that, I'm finally making some progress with this ship configuration. This is the farthest I've ever gotten.
CSC Mission: Escort Convoy. Am I missing something?

Q, break and attack: they will hang with you until they see enemies(about your target range), then they fly after them without you...
if you did that and they STILL get in your way, drop a crate on a planet or big asteroid and order them to attack it so you can do your mission in peace...
Okay... not exactly PEACE...

I always find the wingmen somewhat useful for the escort convoy mission (it's the only one I liek to use them for), I just give the break and attack order so that they will fly out to enemy ships when they appear. Another tip for escorting a convoy, don't use an im90 if enemy ships are getting close because it will fire at ships when there is a friendly in the way even if you have another ship targeted. Although it is good if they are still a distance away.
The comm key for wingmen is "Q", not the same as autons. You have several formations plus attack in formation and break and attack. Break and attack makes them go off and do their own thing while attack in formation makes them fire straight ahead in formation - both are useful in different situations. Pick whatever formation you like best.

You Don't, they are incapable of this command, as are standard autons, it only works for the fleet wingmen, they follow different AI systems.

Although you can give autons some simple commands; stay here, attack, stop attack but you can't give raiders any commands at all.
You probably had one of the scramble cubes which will have a certain effect if enemies are nearby but if there aren't any for it to hit that message comes up.Although, come to think of it, I'm running a quantum CPU, and I used one memory cube with the result of "no carrier signal". Was that permanent? Anyone else encountered this? Maybe I should buy an auton and see if I can communicate with it.
