laser 1-6 is a stronger weapon
it has the chances of doing 1,2,3,4,5,6 damage (with the average being 3.5 damage)
compared to
laser 1-4
it has a chance of doing 1,2,3,4 damage (with the average being 2.5 damage)
and that doesn't take into account rounding errors that always favor the bigger hitters

Crying is not a proper retort!
remember to take into account repeating and rate of fire as well, the 1-6 does do more damage, but ultimately it is damage done per time unit that really matters.(to a point, if the damage is too low it won't hurt resistant armors at all(rouning errors?))

yep that is what I was referring to when I said rounding errors Bobby
say you have a armor that takes 25% damage from lasers
then a 1-4 laser would do
0,1,1,1 damage (with an average of .75 damage)
and a 1-6 laser would do
0,1,1,1,1,2 damage (with an average of 1 damage)
edit: man working with flat percents is much easier than finding the averages of dice
