Ohhh this gives me an idea:

Petinents want to eliminate all sentient life-forms
The Luminuous AI want to elimiate all sentient life-forms...

Petinent+Luminous=...?

I always thought that the Luminous was a manufacturing AI that's went insane. I recall one of the items says 'made by Luminous Nanofacturing' or something of the like?

As for being like the borg, their ships already are in a way. If you use one sort of weapon, it responds by creating ships that are immune to that, etc.

In reply to the beginning of the post - I've got to agree about the endgame being a little tedious, but its hardly hard. If you've got the blue etherium shield upgrade, ICX, and two different weapons (I usually go for Akan 600 and OmniTev9 - if I can get it) the only thing that can touch you is the Ranx Dreadnought, and even that can be slaughtered from a long way off.

I think that random encounters from the Kobol gunships and Ares Cometfalls, escorts for the Ventari and Hurin destroyers and alternate weapons for the different Luminous configurations would spice things up a hell of a lot until the arrival of the Terratons in v.96b.
