I did some work with item sim and made an open office spreadsheet with it.
Column D is the average number of that item appearing in that system per game.
Column E is the chance that the system will appear in game.
Column F is the average number of that item you will get from that system per game.
Column H is the sum of averages up to that point for that item. This can be used to find out how many on average of an item you will get. This works best at level changes and at the end of the item.

any comments or questions or requests on different formats?
edit: I used itemsim to get the base data so it does not include spawned ships and stations and installed devices.
item per system data

so item sim generated that spreadsheet, or did you do it manually?

I did it manually.
Crying is not a proper retort!
I have Microsoft word '07 and can't seem to open your .ods file type.
Can you post the switches used so I can reproduce your results?
If others have the same problem I can upload an alternate file type for use in excel ( .xls)
Some questions:
When running itemsim, is there a way to specify which topology to use? (custom vs. vanilla)

For clarification, items spawned as loot in wrecks are not accounted for in the tables? Just station inventories?I used itemsim to get the base data so it does not include spawned ships and stations and installed devices.

itemsim only has one switch /count and I used /count:100 but I have sorted and done some calculations with the data
You can only use the non adventure topology. That topology can be modded.
Some loot in wrecks is counted but not the stuff that started as their devices. Ships can and the cap ships often do have other kinds of loot.

Some interesting results for endgame equipment.
The numbers are from column H, representing the total number of that item that have appeared in the game.

[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

And according to todays newspaper, there are 12.2 sparrows in every garden in New Zealand. Honestly.*Wolfy wrote:I remember a bug in sim city 4 where you could get half a crime committed...schilcote wrote:So you can find one and a half inertialess drives in the adverage game?

...And if I see 0.2 of a sparrow flying around, rest assured, I'll upload a photograph.
But this table seems pretty useful....
* Yes. That's true. However the important word in that story was "ON AVERAGE". But still, images of 0.2 of a sparrow flitting around immediately filled my head on seeing the story.......
.......I have a twisted mind, it seems.....
