No explosions, just asphyxiation. But partially pressurized just means less pressure, not nothing to breathe. People have climbed Mt. Everest without oxygen tanks and compared to sea level that's partial pressure. With a higher oxygen content you could drop the pressure even lower without problems since it's the partial pressure of oxygen you're really interested in and air is mostly nitrogen.

Not quite. Your body WOULD explode in certain decompression situations. Certainly blood boils if you are exposed to hard vacuum, which would cause an...ah....interesting and somewhat painful demise.

Partial pressurising isn't something pure humans would do, certainly. Because it hampers physical work......and can be dangerous if you get it wrong. It's also bad if you have a powerplant or CO2-O2 recycling failure....you can last longer on the remaining air before you die. The ferians must have adaptations, wether bio-engineered or cybernetic, that let them survive and work with less oxygen (more oxygen in a mining/shipyard environment can be discounted.....it means a higher danger of fire/explosion, even with a relatively small increase in the % oxygen) in the atmosphere they breath. That means less space needed for atmospheric maintenance systems, and more room for smelting ores, and storing and building Miners and Warriors.

I think at this point in the future automation has practically replaced humans in all types of construction, why pressurize a large room with your precious air when it's filled with robots?

As long as there's enough pressure to keep blood from boiling you can give any workers who need to go in there a mask.

There might not be any ferians down there at all, they could have set up a control room elsewhere and use cameras or remote control robots to monitor the shipyard.

From what I understand, Ferians are bugs, probably pretty tough creatures. They might not actually have a one mind/body arrangement like we do, so it's entirely possible that something needs done RITE NAOW and a few bodies really don't matter in the long run if you can just make more.

What!?
George even posted that the ferians were zoanthropes [they are human, to some degree anyways] somewhere on UTF...

Could've sworn I heard someone say they were bugs. Meh.
