B4 NE1 starts reading, I am okay with spoilers for this so if your not, HIT UR BACK BUTTON!!!!

Okay, should I blow up the ferian mining colonies or do I get some kind of reward or something for not hurting them? I've heard that u can kill the miners for their goods but don't destroy the colony. What are the pros and cons of doing this??? Please explain in detail...Thanks :D

Destroying a Ferian colony will turn all surviving Ferian miners spawned by that hive hostile against the attacker who destroyed the hive. The wrecked hive will also spawn three additional warrior ships to assist the hostile miners. The potentially huge swarm can overwhelm anyone unprepared for the onslaught. I have seen a Ferian swarm take out Phobos ships.

Destroying the hive does not have additional consequences, so if you can fight the Ferians, feel free to do so. If you want to kill the Ferians yourself, you will either need to be very strong or use Domina powers.

so there's no additional storyline or some special partnership, etc. that you get for not destroying them??

No. Although the Ferians and Ringers are friendly with each other, relations with Ringers and other Ferian hives are not impacted negatively.

I hope it stays that way. I cannot stand the Ferian bugs: they make mining during the midgame a YASD waiting to happen, slow down level load for an extra second or two, and they are just an eyesore in general. I wipe them out as soon as I am strong enough to survive a battle with warriors. The only other faction that aggravates me more than Ferians are the Nomad Salvagers.

I'm usually making enough money farming things that don't need massive amounts of cargo space to make lots of $$$ off of. I only need to resort to farming ferians if I need the cash. Also a nice way to jump-start your rins account.

Farming ferians is also a way to get a good plasma weapon relatively early, if you farm the warriors. Of course you need to be pretty strong already, and you need a good reacotr to comfortably power the weapon.

Pros and cons of destroying the hive: pro - lots of good ores in a hurry con - you can't farm the miners and warriors if the hive isn't there to spawn them, and the resulting swarm is deadly.

Yes, I agree!!! I kill salvagers as soon as possible. And killing ferians is lots of fun. and profitable.

Oh, and I only destroyed a ferian hive once.......and I will never do it again.
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!

I dunno. The ferians never bothered me.

For me, it's always been the ventari & the salvagers. And the pteravores.

I only deliberately attack the factions that keep sending stuff out at me. The Penitent, Sung, Himal, Anarchists, Centauri and Charon all fall into this category. In fact, the reason why I decided to sell off my old Biolide array was so that I could install a Mark I Howitzer to destroy Sung Fortresses from afar. It's also good for 1HKO'ing Wind Slavers. Not too long after I acquired the Howitzer, I attacked a Penitent Fortress and found a Heavy Penitent Cannon. I switched my Dual Particle Weapon out for that.

I don't attack the Dwarg, Ferians, Heliotrope, Huari or Urak. The Sapiens and Salvagers are special cases: Because I don't have any decon gel, I don't want to run the risk of radiation from attacking Sapiens Compounds, and in the case of Salvagers, I actually retreat if they open fire. I like the Salvagers despite them robbing some stuff (such as the 8 turbolaser cannons I jettisoned, which a nearby Scout picked up moments later), so I try not to attack them if possible.

The ferians usually appear well before you are fully prepared to handle them on your own. If you happen to have a well armed friendly station in the system you can bombard the hive from long range and run to cover on a planet near the friendly station and watch them melt away the swarm. It may take a while, and some of the miner wrecks may get destroyed, but even the miner's weapon sells for a few creds and their fuel rods are usually still useful at that point. If you're really lucky you can loot some really nice stuff off the warriors, and try to rush your reactor upgrade to power the plasma cannon if you manage to loot one.
Destroying the ferian mines don't have any other impact other than not being able to farm miners and warriors from that mine anymore.

Hives do not spawn infinite miners. After the hive spawns enough of them, no more miners will be spawned by that hive. After all of the miners are disposed, you can attack or destroy the hive to spawn warriors if you dare. The loot found in the hive is not very impressive, which is several dozen tons of mid-level ore.
