I carefully killed all the miners and no matter how long I wait or change systems, they don't regenerate.
Can anyone elaborate on this? Bobby said they should as long as I don't blow up the hive, and I haven't.

Hives can spawn more miners, but they have a limit. After a hive spawns enough additional miners, it will not produce any more. You can see for yourself on a comment in EncountersVol01.xml, line 1147.
In one of my recent games, I used the waste cannon to wipe out miner after miner until no more spawned.

It was my first time even killing ferians and I just killed the ones that were out. probably about 10 or so and 1 warrior. I figured there would be more.
