Isn't Commonwealth Customs supposed to automatically decontaminate your ship after exposure to radiation?

Yes, though only the major commonwealth stations and some of the corporate stations will do so. They will also charge credits for decontamination, and if you don't have enough, they'll just leave you to die.

I've been irradiated hundreds of times but the last time was the only time I'd ever died from it. I visited a Commonwealth colony with about 100 seconds left, but they didn't acknowledge the fact that I was contaminated. So I left and began desperately searching for another place to get deconned, but then I was emp'd by a Dwarg master repeatedly until I died :/
