The omni thermo cannon is fantastic now. If you're able to spare the slots, the nanofac completely negates the need to carry ammunition since its regeneration rate is almost as fast as the omni thermo can fire, and the lithium booster seems to be much better than the tesla enhancer in practice (especially against capital ships, where shield buster is pretty much meaningless after the first couple of seconds).
There really ought to be at least one launcher that can deal non-physical damage. Is the Thera cannon a launcher? I can't check right now.

Thera cannon uses ammo. Those dwarg EMP missiles also use ammo. Quantumsphere uses ammo, but thats non-realistic to use yourself. Edit: Nandao cannon also uses ammo. You could argue so does the QAC

though yes, atarlost is right - none of them go into the launcher slot

I remember arguing years ago that the Nandao should be a launcher... and I still think it should be a launcher.

It's in CC. It takes a device slot and rapidly makes thermo cannon shells if you have less than 120 in your hold.sun1404 wrote:We have nanofac?

I've been using Omni-Tritium, and Omni-X-Ray for faster targets or to burn shields down.
If there's an Autofac, though, I might see about switching to Omni-Thermo - I suppose it must be one of those 66k credit devices I haven't identified yet.
I'm also looking at the Mark 7 Howitzer, but that one's expensive...
My biggest issue right now is the ridiculous amounts of time it takes to recharge a gigawatt reactor with solar armor =P

Just what is people's fixation with solar armor? It's not like fuel is so terribly hard to come by.

It's not hard to come by... it's everywhere. It's just really, really, expensive.Watch TV, Do Nothing wrote:Just what is people's fixation with solar armor? It's not like fuel is so terribly hard to come by.
And as far as armor goes, what else do you need to use? You should never be taking hits to it in any case - if you are, it's time to leave with haste and reset the fight when the AI loses interest in you.

Dammit. Hit quote instead of edit.Sereg Anfaug wrote:It's not hard to come by... it's everywhere. It's just really, really, expensive. If I payed for all the fuel I use, I'd never be able to buy anything else. Even without buying fuel, it's taking quite awhile to accumulate the funds for that Howitzer I want, and after that I'll need the speed loader, too =PWatch TV, Do Nothing wrote:Just what is people's fixation with solar armor? It's one fewer thing to worry about, which makes it a very appealing armor for newer players, as well as older players who've spotted that the RNG isn't giving them enough fuel in their current run. Plus sometimes when the RNG is really evil it's the best stuff you'll find in the early game.Watch TV, Do Nothing wrote:Just what is people's fixation with solar armor? I personally use enhanced solar armor (from tinkers) if I can get it, but otherwise mostly avoid it. The exception is on special-conduct runs or attempts at high scores. In that sort of game, every credit counts, so solar armor can actually save a lot of cash, especially if I can sell the extra fuel rods to ice farms. The players needs to have a decent ship or enough engine-power and skill to evade the heavy-hitters that can punch through solar armor really quickly, but with careful piloting it's a very useful armor to use when backtracking a lot or grinding credits/equipment.
Edit: That said, I would never take it far past St. K's.

Nothing should be touching your armor o.O if your shields are down, you shouldn't be fighting at all... unless people are using some sort of tactics I'm entirely unaware of.Shrike wrote: punch through solar armor really quickly,
On-topic Edit: Mark 7 Howitzer is working out pretty well so far. Unfortunately it takes two spaces and isn't Omni, but the damage makes it worth it for now.
