I've been playing since the ICS was a doorstopper, yet until now I've never actually done a permadeath. I think it went pretty well.

The interesting bits:

I got a Korolov Shipping in the first system, in a position where freighters always went past the starting group of stations for half the trip. This allowed me to do 8 missions right off the bat and leave the system with light blast plate.

Thanks to BM stations and a lot of trading, I had a Sabel ion cannon by Rigel.

I got a little... overzealous, and accidentally blew up Korolov Shipping with a disposable NM900 pod while trying to defend it.

I accidentally blew up Volkov with ZG24 cluster mags while attacking chimeras.

I lost Rama at... some point, but he survived for a while.

I finally found a (stack of 2!) targeting rom in a wreck in a previous system, after I had reached Heretic.

101 Phobos kills.

I didn't lose a single station in Heretic.

I used the Novaya repairer through Heretic.

I found a full set of 6 Iocrym heavy armor (4 from one shipyard, 1 from another, 1 from ics), and 3 t10 shields, which I decided to equip for a little bit before ending the game.

7 million points, which would be a record if Steam didn't have a completely different, practically impossible to find scoreboard :evil:

I made something like 10m credits, a lot of which went into TM7 ammo, and 1.5m rin.





I'm pretty happy with it, but I ended up using all 3 insurance policies, and I used Desperate Escape probably something like 50 times, thanks to 1-shotting Phobii, so I suppose it wasn't a 'true' permadeath. I also really wish I had the normal version instead of Steam, so my highscore actually counted. Plus, I wouldn't of had to copy down all that information by hand.

Congrats! Thats a lot of phobos kills and in the manticore no less!
The very first registered game I beat was with the Manticore as well but I didn't do it permadeath. I got killed by a phobos when desperate escape was on cooldown....

Atlast! Atlast! Thanks! You did a Manticore highscore! I love manticores! I bought corporate command for it! Some people in the forums say that the Manticore sucks, but that would show em! Now all I need to do is make a Wolfen highscore. That score is really awesome! Thanks again!

Did you transcribe the game log? It's full of typos. You know you can copy and paste it, right?

I transcribed it by using a text recognition website and correcting any errors/missed text from it(took ~2 hours). The Steam version doesn't really save highscores, at least not to the same place as normal CC highscores, so I couldn't copy it off the website. Unless you can ctrl-c it directly from the client.

Yeah, once I got desperate escape I made sure to NEVER do anything dangerous without it. I spent a lot of time waiting on a planet or in Elysium on autopilot waiting for the cooldown to end. I actually lost one insurance policy when I came across a Omnithor station early, and then a Ares freighter spawned while I was waiting for a station to kill the hunter-killer. I got greedy and tried to kill it after desperate escape got triggered, and died.

Yeah, I think the Manticore may be my favorite ship for a bunch of reasons:

1: Put together, the armor segments generally regenerate faster than a shield of comparable level, although you gotta be careful to spread out damage between segments.

2: The armor generally has much higher resistances than shields of the same level.

3: The repairer generally uses less power, and only uses power while repairing, saving fuel.

4: And while the one anti-shield weapon in the game (that enemies use) is super common late-game and has a damage type that almost nothing has resistances to, the only anti-armor weapons are particle damage, and by the time you get attacked with them you probably have high particle resistances.

5: Sustained damage wise, the Manticore is king, and generally you're dealing with sustained damage. Most sources of burst damage are easy to dodge or rare, really the only major danger are Phobii.


I gotta say, it is incredibly fun to just waltz up to a Sung Citadel and completely ignore the dozens of shots that barely scratch your armor, let alone damage it faster than it's repaired. Being taken out of autopilot by so much as a single shot/being unable to autopilot under fire is annoying though.
