You have to use a decayed crystal to negate the previous enhancement.

You do? I thought you could simply just use the enhancement you want, then you get the message "Your previous enhancement has been lost" :?

All enhancement now need to be undone by a "damage" item. As far as I know:

Armor: Meteorsteel dust, Degenerating nanos (?)
Shields: ShieldPower v1.0 (90% chance), Decayed Etherium Crystal
Weapons: Defective weapon enhancement ROM

Ablative armor coating and reactive armor coating are still innerchangeable if one or the other is already applied to the armor. I haven't found any others that are, yet.

They have the most HP of any equivalent regen shield. they also have more resistances than you think, because of the higher level. they take 4% from particle and lower, and a mere 16% from ion.

Give me an Iocrym veil or a Taikon any day. :P
Oh, I forgot to mention that it is now possible to enhance the Invincible Class up to 150%, which brings the HP from the standard 90, to 225!
So those Chasm's aren't really any major threat even when going up against five of them at a time.

With what materials? How likely is it that you are going to get the materials?

You can use Longzhu Spheres to enhance it. You'll need 14 of them to get the shield to +150%, however, and that could prove difficult.

They always have, as far as I know.
They have been able to do so from at least 0.96 (which is when I started to look into these sorts of things).

They enhance weapons, shields, and possibly drives. I'll go test drives now....

Edit: Yup, Longzhus work on drives too.

How much can weapons be enhanced? Is it additive with enhancements from, say, hexagene boosters?

Any weapon or shield can be enhanced up to +150%, but only if it doesn't have a different enhancement already. Longzhus, however, can only be used on shields, drives, and weapons with an 'energyweapon="true"' attribute. That typically means laser, particle, ion, and positron damage weapons only. Not sure about antimatter.

Does it stack with particle sources or ion boosters?

Yeah, it's probably for the best that you can't order 100 longzhus at the corporate trading post anymore, but I was a little sad the first time I saw that in .98.
