Aha! Aubrey is the rat! She's at every station too! So we must find a way to kill her, too bad, she sounded pretty hot.

Possibly Stormhawk, but more likely than not it is probably one of the guards that bring you to her for promotions, -etc. Try the scenario of a jealous / ambitious young man who sees a way to sell information which he gathers to the CW, while at the same time he's working to build up a separate, more private organization within the existing one. Sort of a subtle takeover from the inside out. (Might be a good idea for an adventure mod.)
Anyhow, Aubrey must be under the tightest scrutiny of anyone there, because is the closest to Lord Mikhov (or however you spell that name!) This means that if she were the rat, she would have been discovered by now....

Perhaps there could be an option to bribe the CW officers when you dock after selling slaves and avoid being imprisoned or check for the smuggler's hold and present an option to free the slaves or not. The risk involved with selling slaves is too great unless you have already turned against the Commonwealth or are planing to.

Perhaps the black market could sell 'Fake IDs' that would effectively wipe your record clean.

Code: Select all

(objSetData gPlayerShip "slaveSales" 0)
This could also be applied to other crimes but would have to cost alot to balance the amount that can be made from selling the slaves.

As for the informant, that would be an interesting sub-plot for the black market missions but dosn't really address the problem of getting imprisoned for the slave sales.

Well a new (even if it is just forged) ID should do that, right?

Right, but the code given by Prophet suggested just forgiving slave trading. Mine will be a blanket sweep.

Nope, I wish there were a way for it to actually change your name, maybe a message will appear, "Fake ID in place, your new name is Jorglet Stivenen, have a nice day."

Hmm... I don't think you can change the name itself in-game, because that depends on the save-game file's name...

Perhaps give the player a new ID registry number (generated from some random numbers that don't really matter?)

Thanks Alterecco for the clarification, but would you do me a favor? Please, do not swear when speaking to me; I am one of those rare indiviuals who find cuss'n and swear'n offensive. The Commonwealth is but a part of this wonderful game, thus being fiction it would, of course, have neither father nor mother, thus rendering your expletive of no effect, since to be in the condition which your expletive suggests, would mean that one was illegitamately born. So if you, or anyone else who speak to me on these forums, would kindly honor my request, I would be grateful.
Hi Darth,

I haven't been on forums, so I didn't see your reply. I for one come from an environment where I have been totally hardened to swearing, not that I'm insensitive to the fact that others aren't, so sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention.

I hope you realise that I was not targetting the expletive at you, i was more thinking that there are probably certain groups in the Transcendence universe who consider the Commonwealth less of a common good, and would gladly shake their fist at them and let foul words escape their mouth, including saying things about who gave them birth and how it happened (although they were¸technically, not born).

As for changing your name, it can actually be hacked. The only in game function with access to the players name is (plyComposeString). If that function was overridden and changed to return a new name, based on looking up some stored value... You would have to do some string replacement, for which you could take a look at Betel's string functions. Won't be easy, but it *can* be done. Also, overriding functions is evil. Remeber to make a backup of it first, ie:

Code: Select all

(setq old_plyComposeString plyComposeString)
(setq plyComposeString (lambda (player string)
    (if (not fail_or_other_check)
         (block Nil
               "evil hackish string manipulation"
         )
         ;; oops, better fall back
         (old_PlyComposeString player string)
    )
)

Thank you Alterecco, for your reply to the swearing issue. I appreciate it. Thank you as well for the information which you and the others have provided on the code / strings. By the way, if you are looking for something to help you in Ringer space, I recently uploaded a mod which credits your Ringer accounts with one million rins; there is a check and balance effect as well, but the info on that can be found in the credits readme file. Anyhow, the code can be altered to provide one with as much or less rins as one wishes; just thought you might be interested.... :twisted:
