They EAT pteracnium, from your ship if they can. OMNOMNOMS
Now if they dropped it as part of their biology wouldn't you think there'd be Ptera-farms and whatnot? :o ideas are endless.
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.

That's what I was planning on doing with them in TX2: more like social insects (ones that hate the luminous...)

(Yay for rebalancing annoying enemies into formerly annoying enemies that hate other formerly annoying enemies more than anyone else) :P

They EAT pteracnium, from your ship if they can. OMNOMNOMS

Hmm. Possibly their tendency to bore through solid diamond lattice and eat things, also draining any nearby reactors at the same time....MIGHT be a slight incentive not to use them as farm animals ;)

I'd quite like to see some info about the Pteravores. They seem to be a life-form, not a ship....which means it's the only non-human life we see in 1.0 (Iocrym are using AIs, so we don't *see* them).

Possibly some kinda 'Totally un-generic research station" in the.....3? systems before heretic....either as a mod (which is beyond my abilities, but I have no doubt it's *possible*)..or as an addition to the Vanilla game.... Have some scientists doing research on the Pteravores.....who will tell you about them a bit. Maybe also buy some stuff as well.....since Pteracium would be rather useful for their research. Maybe even some missions.......scout hive, escort research/supply ship, investigate station that's gone off the air, rescue survivors from said station when it has totally unexpectedly been overrun by the pteravores....hmm. Imaginitive ideas, m'yes..

And maybe some nice anti-pteravore rewards? Auto-refueler, perhaps?

But it would be an interesting thing rather than the usual "fly fly fly, pew pew pew, fly fly fy, pew pew LOOT fly fly fly, blow up station, fly, pew pew pew, gate, rinse and repeat".......

Pteravores are "wing-eaters", which makes sense in that they hinder ships' mobility. I don't think it's possible to conclude that they eat pteracnium just from their similar names and the presence of it in their nests.

but they actually eat the fuel in the reactor. i dont think they are limited to pteracnium, as they can drain any reactor, but its what is most commonly used out there, so they named it that way.

why else would they go for your reactor if not for energy?

I think the biology of these critters must be pretty interesting for them to be able to run a metabolism off fuel for a fusion reactor....and they must have some nice teethy things to be able to hack into ships.

.......I might learn XML just to try coding the researchers I talked about earlier....
