I found a Dockable Planets thread here, but I couldn't post in it. There's been a prototype on the Unnoficial Transcendence Forums for years. I just took up the project and it works pretty well, exept Trancendence complainins about a duplicate UNID which dosen't exist.

[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

It might be because the UNID starts with 0xF.

ehm... yes !
that was an idea I had around xmas to dock with a planet, then select "land on planet" or something and you get transported to a special system with a terrain map to simulate the planet with a couple of stations (could be a space elevator and a trading station for example).
Unfortunately it still a smoky idea.

To make it working we need:
1. Make some special systems, 1 for each type of planet ?
2. Make some new dockscreens for Bobby's Dockable Planets prototype mod.

To make it nice:
3. Some 3d models of ground stations ala "Cloud City"
4. Make some terrains to use. (that's why I started the graphics thread some time ago, and started playing with animations, background images, nebulae, etc.)

But still I have near zero skills in dockscreens and systems topology.
schilcote, I'm very happy that you resurrected this idea :)
