Attention all modders...how about a time traversing deep exploration vessel with the abillity to restore a system from before you gated there...like for when you screw up big and just want to refix what you did...of course this would require a modder thinking outside the box.
New things interest me.

It's called the Corporate Cruiser :)

And My "Back Story" is now in with my .xml that ruuns pretty much the same line as the destruction of Mars to Transcendence: ( spelling errors are freee with every thing I type with this keyboard:) )

However, I don't know how much of my .xml idea could be useful for your tinkering...you guys shot down my Crew as Roms idea: but I flew it anyway ( which is why I never told anyone about the .xml / back story until it was ready for release )

Not really, no. I understand what the OP is asking for- Would it be possible to code something that saves the initial parameters rolled when you first enter a system, with say a "Domina Power" that "loaded" those parameters and force-warped you to the inbound gate?

I think that defeats the entire purpose of the game as being Progressive .
Self Destruct ( IDEA!)???
*to try to push the game BACK could corrupt the save files and you might as well have self destructed.*
.....unless you can self destruct the player with an insurance-like catch that puts them in the previous system without closing the game?

I am not technical enough to do that..... ( i would rather tell the game to rebuild stations instead of trying to reverse time ( new stations = no history with Player , I do it often when testing and hate it when I forget to change the code for a different station name) ) but avenging ships like Molotoks can be bribed with 250K credits at their stations ( which I think is what made the original question come up ).

If all it's doing is saving the initial variables that were created when the system was spawned, and then overwrites them on command- I don't think that would cause anything to corrupt. You're basically just copying and pasting values. I don't have the foggiest on how to do this though.

Its definitly doable, but it would require essentially double-saving your game (each system is saved once in the savegame, and then again, in a data format, likely attached to the playership) which would cause very large savegames (on a TC where you have many, many systems, this may result in slow load times), and keep in mind that most scripts, both modded and vanilla, were not designed to have a system completely reset itself, so you will likely encounter a number of broken missions and other scripts, not to mention the possibility of a crash or unwinnable game
