I recently had the idea of porting ships from the game Freelancer to the universe of Transcendence. I already have the ingame models extracted and I can get on with sprite-making soon.

I am planning to release these ship in packs, which groups ships with the weaponry and equipment that they often carry in Freelancer. For example, a civilian Freelancer pack (for a lack of better name) would feature the Starflier, Startracker, Starblazer (hidden ship not found in vanilla game), Hawk, Falcon and the Eagle. Also it would include all the civilian line of weapons (Starbeam, Stunpulse, Flashpoint, etc) with original sound effects and hopefully as faithful a recreation to the original firing effects as possible. Also included would be the missiles, countermeasures flares, mines, torpedoes, afterburners and shields. (Possibly the cruise engine and disruptors as well.)

Since FL ships rely on hardpoints to mount all their equipment, I think I'll have to rely heavily on PSD's hardpoint linking function.

I'll post some samples of weapons effect and some sprites later this week.

Are we going to be able to fly these ships or are we just going to see them flying around in the game?

Stage 1 is implementing them as playerships with the help of the PSD framework, adding them to the AI may come later.

Also, a question to scripters: Is it possible to create a weapon that does little hull damage but heavy shield damage?

yes
there is the shield attribute which is a multiplier of damage affecting only shields. Look at the mag launcher code for an example of its use.

or you can use weapon events to tune the damage to shield and/or armors.

I have ported graphics for all Civilian line ships (CV line only, other utility ships such as Trains and transports not included.)

This is the Star- series. The Starblazer is the hidden Easter egg third member of the line that can be modded back to the original FL.

Molecular Shields:
All molecular shields have -20% resistance against Singularity (Represents Tachyon) and Graviton (Represents Neutron) and +20% resistance against plasma and particle.

Graviton Shields:
All graviton shields have -20% resistance against Particle and Plasma and +20% resistance against laser and generic (Represents pulse).

Positron Shields:
