I've been working on a new rumor system in my mission mod. It's pretty basic at the moment, but rumors can now be generated by mission events rather than hard coded in the station definitions. I've implemented it for container habitats and commonwealth slums so far with rumors for Raisu (which is now uses a mission object) and the Benedict/Fiona mission.
Basically every time a station wants to display rumors it calls GetRumors on itself to get a list of default rumors and GetRumor on all mission objects. The means that the rumors generated can depend on mission state (in progress, success, failure etc). As mission objects are not tied to specific systems you can have rumors which appear across multiple systems (used with the final Benedict mission).
