Here are some ideas I came up with: (I hope to put these changes in a mod or maybe have george use them optimally...)
----------------
Looters/scavengers

we've got our scavenger nomad, but it's this early level ship, slow, cumbersome and miserably weak.
For levels later on, you might see IE series frieghters running about the system, searching for lootable wrecks. Maybe even an antaries frieghter and a few escorts... It'd be fun to see an antaries 5 running about w/ a petracnium mega-drive, a kaidun shield and an IM90 after some giant battle between a few ares ships and a Taikon station. Then to hunt it down and claim it's treasures for yourself...
----------------
Warzones

Easy to generate using a pseudo station like the random wrecks or the gaian ship generating wrecks, ships from various factions, such as sung vs. huari, commonwealth vs. ares, dwarg vs. sung, commonwealth vs. pirates, pirates vs. civilians and looters, etc. etc.
Simply use the encounter system to cause the ships to gate in and either roam about the system or go meet up at the wreck and fight eachother... Asteroids could also be used, but lonely asteroids might look a bit silly... a wreck would at least fit in.
----------------
Warring Soveriengs...

So yeah, you see the friendlies firing on your enemies and all, but things that make no sense at all are like a dwarg and sung station sitting next to eachother peacefully... They are supposed to be enemies... It was even worse when the Huari did it >.< (probably due to a bug or something though- i think they are supposed to attack eachother)
It would also be cool to see them launch attacks on eachother's stations, just a small group of ships using the reinforcement encounter to go over and attack the ships at a station.
-----------------
Core bound lunatics and other adventurers...

You're not the only one who's tried this, so where is everyone else? Who buys from adventurer outfitters? Seriously, we need guys roaming about in totally decked-out ships.
 I'll admit to wanting to see a modified centauri raider outfitted w/ an inertialess, mammoth 100, that dual tev9 gun, and the heavy nami launcher. Pretty much any ship (except very obvious ones, such as CSC's, capital ships, luminous, autons...) could be used. Maybe even an ares model scavenged from after a battle and sold for cheap to some guy in Eridani.
Of course these encounters should not be too common, otherwise it'd look silly, but maybe running into 3 or 4 on your way could be an interesting experience...
-----------------
Shipping options at trade posts

Don't you hate it when you have to pay shipping on some cheap yet heavy item or having paid the shipping but having that transport w/ your hyperion reactor blowing up the moment it gates in?
I was thinking of the following shipping options available for the player to choose when at a trade post. (you'll see more info on variations of freighters in the next idea section)

Pirates on these trade routes might be an interesting factor... the more expensive the item, the more/better pirates... If you've got a hyperion reactor or two, don't expect your transport to face 4 corsairs, but rather a bunch of Tripoli's

Options: (these are guessed prices from what I think the rates are. It's proportional to what is in game. in-game shipping ATM - standard rate)
Very Cheap- 1 credit per ton. Transport: stock antaries
- this option is great for when the trade post is right next to the gate or when you're in a system w/ few enemies
Cheap- 4 credits per ton. Transport: stock antaries V
- similar to above, but at least you have some saftey
Standard Rate- 10 credits per ton. Transport: stock EI100
- good for when you're a little bit in the hurry, don't have too much to worry about and have a moderate amount of money to spare
Deluxe- 25 credits per ton. Transport: stock EI200
- this will get you some decent protection, but it does cost
Expensive- 50 credits per ton. Transport: stock EI7000
- it sure does cost, but when you've got all sorts of enemies around, the extra protection can't hurt
Military- 200 credits per ton. Transport: aurochos
- for the most expensive items, this would be a good idea. Aurochos transports can really take a beating... Must have military ID

I could also recommend going out yourself and escorting the transport...
---------------
Variable freighters

You know those ships that supposedly supply stations w/ goods and all? their always IE100's...
Wouldn't it be nice to see george's new frieghtors even in the late game doing their duty? :D
Also maybe toss in the occasional pirates chasing after them...
---------------
Freight missions

Maybe you could hire yourself out as a freighter to deliver cargo from place to place. Others do it, why can't you? Don't expect to have it easy though if you're carrying something valuable...
---------------
No more crummy ships in late game...

Seriously- they get caught in the cross fire too easily (who uses a saphire w/out upgrades in systems when you've got ares dreadnoughts on the loose!?). then their station gets mad at you and starts shooting at you. Also, the Huari need to have a bigger level of tolerance. If I accidentally hit one of their ships w/ a stray katana bolt, I shouldn't be totally locked out from that story line. All the soveriens that you can potentially ally with should have some tolerance margins.
---------------
More Huari

Their an important faction, one whom you can ally with, and yet they have only one ship!? The sung get... 4? 5? that's a lot compaired to most of the "faceless" enemies. Nuff said.
----------------
Also to be included:
my extended encounters
my teraton ships
my ringer ships
my extended teratons
my new weapons and weapon effects
---------------
more to come if I can think of anything...

I'd like to see your teratons and ringers in-game.

After I get the blasted pirate mod prototype working (been giving me all sorts of trouble, and missions aren't exactly easy to program), I intend to try update to .99 quickly pull together some centauri dockscreens, and then begin work on a sovereign total-war mod (starting with just Centauri vs CW (Korolov does most of the work though) vs. Charon Pirates ).

There is no problem with the Huari getting just one ship. Its their style.
