bug with item data

i have been setting data on items lately and noticed some odd behaviour.

I have a stack of 10 items.
I use objSetItmData to set data on half of the items.
Later, I purchase or loot 1 more of the same item and it has the data.
shouldn't the item should be added to the playership with no data?

wow if that is true that is a really bad bug.

That does sound serious. If you get a chance, can you create a simple mod that reproduces the problem? I haven't been able to so far.

Alright, I put a small adventure mod together to demonstrate the problem and found some more odd behaviour.

The file is here.

Load the game and select the "test system" adventure.
The station will auto load 10x artificial plasma items onto your ship with no data on them.
I also have a recurring timer that will msg you if it finds any +meds items that have data or not.
The station will then scan the playership and add data to 3 of the items, but the remaining 7 get removed somehow... I did not encounter this behaviour in boarding parties thankfully.
The message will then display that the items do infact have data on them.
There is a cargo crate with another 10 plasmas in it. If you loot them they are added to the stack of plasma in the ship and now have data on them.
