Seems like a fun idea to use as a excuse to change ships in part II (Is there a greater galactic community at that point a la Star Wars? Its off human space after all). Could also add to the F2 player summary screen, "Never destroyed a escape pod", a way of saying "You monster you".Yama wrote:Sounds good. Pirate ships could be equipped with "escape pods" that would function a lot like slave coffins. Occasionally you'd either find one in a wreck, or floating in space like a cargo crate after a shipwreck explodes. Playerships could also be equipped with with them so, on occasion when the plot calls for it, you might survive the destruction of your ship and be taken prisoner.alterecco wrote:I think this is a great idea. fun way to gain some credits and Commonwealth standing to me.

With all Due Respect to you Great Minds out there:
the Jail is in my 2380 : but a few posts have given me some things to consider before it is finished, once there is something from the idea pools out and working, I am sure they can be refined and / or expanded.
So while you are thinking things up: if you can, try to give the Great Minds something in the game to work with ( in other words try to get them examples of the idea in .xml format ) THEN they can see if it flies or not not for the Regulation Game and versions.
I learned this exact practice by giving my toys to another player : they are not exactly in that player's Mods, but they helped to create something far more dangerous:)

ImageVariants for ships! Let there be more personalization on part of the pilots. For instance, I'd like to see pink, and even blue Sapphires, green Wolfens.

They don't nessiarily know about those systems?
Use your brain? One of those systems is only reachable with alien tech, and the other's location is a very carefully guarded secret. It's just a nice touch of realism. A warning would seem out of place anyway; the insurance company isn't going to just pop in something BAD about themselves. If there was waaay more dialogue involving Clavius, it might not stick out too harshly, but as is there are like five lines you'll ever read.Lmoy wrote:I think the insurance stations should make it clear that they don't ressurect in systems Corporate cruisers can't get to (Huaramarca and Elysium).
Clavius is pretty vague about how their insurance works, promising full resurrection in the event of death, but not giving much info on how the process works or any info about the possibility of them not being able to ressurect. From what they say, it's implied that they will unfailingly process your insurance claim, which is not the case.
Given how important insurance often is to the player, it would make sense to elaborate somewhat. If you're going for realism, insurance companies should explain in full the services and drawbacks of their product.
And I'm not saying they should outright say "We don't resurrect in Elysium" something more along the lines of "We will ressurect wherever we can realistically process your claim".

Just have a "fine print" or "disclaimer" option that explains when insurance may or may not work. Make the disclaimer appear as some obnoxious legal mumbo-jumbo.

in my Virkmar insurance services during testing I do have it noted as a restriction to remind myself of what I was trying to do ( I often get side tracked testing stuff I do )PM wrote:Just have a "fine print" or "disclaimer" option that explains when insurance may or may not work. Virkmar was born because a player complained of not getting their credits worth of service.: I got that covered , was not easy and had to bribe the guards at the gate, start trade relations....took weeks of negotiations.
However, I do totally agree with the others that Clavis or any other Insurance company would not really know of the existence of those two systems: Huari are not friendly toward the Corporation, neither are the Sung, so in order to Disclaim that "something" you have to justify knowledge of that "something".......there has to be some back story there. Some obvious trade relation / presence that justifies knowledge.
as for the other system ( I never spell it right, I always copy it ) reachable by Alien technology......yes.
MY Personal Justification is the Shrines: they have that technology. They are the main source of getting it.
If you can get it from them: so can others?
This leads to the question : "how dependable is this technology and can it be reproduced?"
whom would be researching it? Dvalin? or his rivals?.......hurt feelings over loosing the cruiser contract pushes ahead research on alien technology?

Based on my limited experience, I have a hard time seeing lack of insurance coverage in Elysium as being a problem. It appears that there are never bad any guys there, in fact never any other ships except my wingmen (though maybe I just haven't gotten far enough into the game), so I can only see four ways to die in Elysium:
- Suicide (But if you're going to do that, why not gate to another system that has coverage and off yourself there? )
- Run out of fuel ( I thought I hit the pause button before leaving the room... / Someone hit a key while I wasn't looking and restarted the game... ). Probably the most likely cause of death in Elysium, but do they even add fuel to your ship when they resurrect you?
- Open a booby-trapped ammo crate when your shields are down
- Open a radioactive ammo crate or barrel of waste and don't get decontaminated in time

Also, if you are in Elysium and radioactive, a jump to any corporate system will allow the insurance to kick in even if you die before being decontaminated.Yama wrote: And that fourth item's really a stretch. One quick jump takes you from Elysium to Eridani, where there are always two stations that'll decon you for a modest price. How often is a player who spent 10,000 credits on insurance going to be caught without the few hundred credits that a decon job costs?
I don't think we need a new insurance company, or that Clavius needs to be able to resurrect in those systems, just that they make it clear they can't resurrect everywhere, likely through the arorementioned disclaimer.
A display to show all the properties of the ship which show up at the beginning when you have to choose your starting ship would be very nice. Otherwise it's hard to measure exactly how much does cargo and thrusters affect your acceleration rate.
A small unobtrusive display of current speed would also be nice. It could even be a thin horizontal line at the fuel and energy usage bars, or a tiny numerical display somewhere else on the HUD.
Weapon range indicator in the devices list, either numerical like damage, or category like the WMDs. Many weapons don't even have any info about their range in the description box.
