Rama is a great companion, however he can be a nuiscance when blasting a base or (especially) a capship. He just sits there getting hit by smaller ships, you can ask him to "attack in formation" but unfortunately, that does not stop him just sitting there while smaller ship blasts him away. If you order him to "break and attack" he dies because he canot deal with the Sung Citadel or Hurin Destroyer. I suggest an "loose formation" attack. He tries to stay close to formation but will bother to shoot at ships nearby (visual range, not using the traditional gunship maneuver). This solves the problem because you can deal with the main problem and your companion will be able to handle himself in the meantime.

I like this idea. Right now there are two kinds of escorts:
Autons don't keep a tight formation (and sometimes get in your line of fire) but they engage enemies.
Wingmen keep a tight formation but they don't turn to engage enemies.
I agree that wingmen need an order that makes them stay in formation but swivel to attack targets in range.

Perhaps a "defend my target" option as well? At least for wingmen, if not autons. That way they can do their formation thing around the friendly, covering them from incoming fire and returning fire from their fixed formation, while not blocking me from shooting at the bad guys.
