Sort of a parallel idea:

How about a space junkyard as well (attached to this station?), where there are dozens of wrecks, each with loads of items and parts on them, but most worthless, and you have to browse around to find good stuff (but when you do, it's a good deal).

You could have all the wrecks in an Arena type structure, and you just loot off what you want and pay to get back out.

seems over complicated for a discount shop then. And just a basic discount shop wouldn't help the money problem anyway.
