Hit effect is silent if it contains multiple painters.

This has been around as long as I remember, but 1.08 is the first version with an official hit effect affected. The default plasma hit effect when it causes damage is composed of two painters, a particle cloud (yellow spikey explosion) and a flare (white flash). Its defined sound is not played.

I can't repro this. I tried the Kytryn blaster and it worked fine when it did damage (not against planets).

If you can repro this, could you point me to a mod. Thank you!

No mod necessary. Do you hear the standard hit sound when the Kytryn blaster or the Ares plasma archcannon shot hits an (unshielded) target (and the target lives)? I do not -- it is completely silent. I see the pretty plasma explosion with its two painters, but its defined hit sound is not played.
