A non-shield device that occupies the shield slot (e.g., CC's Makayev nano repairer) does not prevent the player from installing a true shield or another device that requires a shield slot. In other words, installing a non-shield device in the shield slot does not replace a shield or other device already in the shield slot. Also, installing a shield only replaces the previously installed shield, but not a non-shield like the nano repairer. For example, Manticore can have both a shield and multiple nano repairer devices installed.
