Every time you die the time spent from the last save and when you die is not recorded.
I'd like to request a stat that tallies up the total time spent on a savegame that is from start to finish + the time lost when a player dies.

Makes sense. I'll make a change post 1.2.
Most likely, I will just replace the current "total play time" value with the metrics you propose. For permadeath game there will be no difference, but for games where you resurrect it will show the total time played.
