If you get up to the freighter escort missions for the military and get the rank major, the fortresses open up a lot more options. I can almost always get the omni-tev9 from a fortress once I've done some missions. This game I decided to try the omni-particle and it's okay but the omni-turbo + collimiter seems superior almost all the way to sung space.
To answer your question, if you have the option, get the Tev9.

Always go for the omni tev9, it can destroy everything except the dwarg and sung quickly if you encounter it early in the game and is probably the best weapon in part 1 for eliminating those pesky ranx gunships, it is also great for taking out the shields of late game ships since most shields start to ignore particle and blast damage in favor of ion and thermo past level 7.
I have to put my bid in for the Ares lightning turret.

Trouble is actually getting an Ares turret before Sung space.
(Last game I had a Sung camp pre-Charon, FWIW. Wind slavers + Charon frigate = so much for that Korolov.)
I'd go for the omni-TeV but then I use solar reactors, so what would I know?

An RK15 with a cannon accelerator can hold you until you can get an Ares Lightning Turret if you're okay using fixed axis guns against heavy opponents. Against gunships it doesn't really show its age until you start meeting Sandstorms, and that's the same point you can start encountering Phoboses or Deimoses in CSC missions.

Righty-ho. Probably a gunship-only sort of thing.Atarlost wrote:An RK15 with a cannon accelerator can hold you until you can get an Ares Lightning Turret if you're okay using fixed axis guns against heavy opponents. Gunships and yachts. As long as you keep them light.KA101 wrote:Righty-ho. The main issue here is apparently: Ammo VS fuel, Blast VS Particle damage.
I say: unless you're gunshipping, where the weight factor biases toward the TeV9 (ammo will weigh you down)
Then why choose? take both, until you can get good ion/thermo/endgame weapons.

Because only the same ships that care about ammo mass have the slots to mount both.FourFire wrote:The main issue here is apparently: Ammo VS fuel, Blast VS Particle damage.

I'm gonna go ahead and go back on my previous choice based on my last game. It's been a long time since I've used the Akan 600 but they seem to appear much earlier and the ammo is fairly easy to obtain. They also outrange particle weapons so now I've changed my opinion of it.

Keep your Akan. Until a few systems before Jiang's star. Then get rid of it, and save for a plasma torch. Head into the outer relam, and it you're lucky, you can get a Ares Plasma Cannon(in my opinion the high hp compensates for the low fire rate). Having a weapon with a better fire rate really helps.
