Is there a special button for salvaging a destroyed ship to get its stuff, cos I cant find it in the guide. Or do I automatically get it?

To get stuff from ships you have destroyed, you need to press the "D" button while you are near to the ship. This will dock you with the destroyed ship (wreck). Once docked, you can loot the various items/devices from the ship by pressing the loot button. Once looted, the items will appear in your cargo hold for either selling at a station or installing them.

If you need any more help, feel free to ask. We (at least I) won't give away too many spoilers!

Of course, you'll want to learn about mods too!
mods are useful- for example, see a ship you like? ask a modder (like me) and they'll make it a selectable starting ship. or if you want a new gun. or shield. or armour. or station.

I think you could have given better explanation that, Evilbob. You should also have waited for him to finish playing a decent game before introducing him to mods, but, since you already said, i'll explain mods in a bit more detail:

Mods, officially known as extensions, are xml files that add or change information in the game. For example, if I made a mod that adds a new weapon, I can say how powerful it is, how much it costs, how much it weighs, and many, many more values (there are hundreds).

There are many people in the Transcendence community that make mods, including me, Evilbob, BlackPheonix, the_holy_thom, and quite a few other people. There are about 10-20 of us in all. Most of us will make mods by request, and to your specifications. Some of us even have websites dedicated to our mods. There is also a main site for all Transcendence mods in general, whcih you can reach at http://transcendencemods.er1.be.
A few of the modders here have also made modding "companies" (they're not real companies), which we base our mods around. I own Fichikai Industries, Evilbob owns the Neo-Nexia Industrial Corporation, and there are other names such as BlackPheonix Industries, Holy Mods Inc., PlayMeNow organization, the Sentrettian Empire, and quite a few others that I can't remember the names of.

Here is a small list of single modding sites:
http://www.freewebs.com/akikotai This is the Fichikai Industries (FKI) website, and I own this one.
http://www.freewebs.com/evilbobol This is the Neo-Nexia Industrial Corporation (N-NIC), owned by Evilbob.
http://www.freewebs.com/blackpheonix This is BlackPheonix Industries (BPI), owned by BlackPheonix.
http://www.freewebs.com/syroticsinc This is Syrotics Inc., owned by Kevin Briakos.

If you want any more information on unmodded or modded Transcendence, feel free to ask.

Hmm....I think that post would be good as an official explanation of mods...

EDIT: Sorry for double-posting, I just felt it would decrease the "professionalism" of the last post.
