I was not sure exactly what the " latest version " would be but, it is Nothing like Transcendence and I crashed on my first attack ( i lost anyway ) it is "different".....but nothing in the way that Transcendence is "different" as in " your hooked ".

I took a break from the real universe and wanted to try the other things on my computer: but Transcendence summons me back with it's nagging " your not going to feel the power of Domina on that BOAT....you need a real ship, try a Wolfen."

well, I am sure that the game is nicer to those that understand it better I suppose but, I like to do missions, fight / kill and die ..
this Anaceron is a great thing, just wish I could grasp it's magic...

and i looked at it's files, way out of my limited brain's ability to try to tinker: but my bots like the text :) it's just annoying when they randomly tell me about a world that I had to look up or call me Majesty.....

Anacreon is a game that's meant to be played against others. It's also (to some extent) a product of an earlier era, where games were played with manual in hand- remember, the Windows Anacreon is primarily a straight graphical/network port of a game that was first published a quarter-century ago. It's likely that a majority of the people posting on these boards were not even alive when the original Anacreon was released.

I appreciate your reply , but somehow i do not think George will appreciate the time span you indicated :) LOL
but there is a DOS version of the game as well: did not seem to like my Dell, last night i spent over an hour working on 4 planets, tried o attack a Rogue station in 6,1 and crashed on my second attack ( the first i retreated, not enough ships in my fleet , the second i just went suicide trying to reduce their fleet until the rest of mine got there).

I DID like trying to manage the worlds, import/export : ok, so people died of starvation because I am a Space Pilot not a Despot, but it did not seem to bother me as much as the rebellions : I had to station fleets just to crush the E.T rabble :)

I think if this crash thing was compensated for: repaired : I would not feel so bad about it, but it it was a nice way to kill time.

to be honest there is a major difference between Theory and Practice with this game, I tried it without reading the instructions first, but that was because i needed to SEE what the instruction would be talking about : I took hours, but Lost "Honorably" by running out of fuel without any major losses due to my lack of reading the instructions on administering the Empire.
Honestly it was not my fault, there just was no fuel available to my tiny forces.

Anyway, I later read the Instructions and tried again, lost horribly twice in a row.

Last night i started again, fuel is low and i have fleets out in space with no fuel but transports with fuel are on the way. Watching the planets for build up of Infantry is a Major factor in keeping those planets so if the planets have transports, i push the transports with the harvested troops into orbit : or i send a fleet from planet to planet to harvest troops and fuel.

This is very attention extensive being as you have to watch every single planet in your empire, watch for the hostile forces, try to reach and take any planet that you can hoping they have resources your empire can use......

On the PLAY INDEX : compared to Transcendence, which is at a the top ( 10 ) for me : it is a cool 6, I can see single player games lasting many hours and multi-player taking far longer.

My entire reason for playing this is because, obviously we all need to understand it otherwise we are useless in the departments of discussion, etc.

would I play this as opposed to Transcendence? no. it is really not my style, I am a space pilot and fighter, miner : I like commerce and missions and a great story.....all the things you find in Transcendence.

but i think it is a good thing to learn and experience, a good tool for space explorers to learn " what is it like to be planet based ? "
and really helps to answer opinions of government within a sovereign.

In Transcendence we have a fuel issue as well, it is the cause of many fuel / reactor additions or fuel mods...Anacreon could use some transcendence Jazz to it for it's ships, like a Bussard Scoop(?) and maybe more asteroids for mining / some commerce .
but it is cool...Just I like to get out into space sometimes myself instead of sitting in my Ivory tower like Saddam waiting for the Americans to come calling for tea..

You summed it up very nicely Shane.
However, I hope the new mechanics that George will add for Anacreon 3 will fix the tediousness and up the awesomeness :D

I want o keep that in my posts on the topic, I think it is helpful to others - or would be.

My current game in this empire has been LONG and I have raised some planets from dirt to gate technology : at the one point the Rogue Fortress appeared but for some reason did not send any fleets : and it remained passive long enough for me to send small fleets to it , amass them into one big fleet and take the fortress over :) . so THAT saved me a great deal of tinkering. I have recently built a gate, a SRM field, I have fleets building disruption devices, outposts and complexes : my industrial complexes are starving, seems the transports can not get there fast enough, but I can always restock the population if I got to.

An Index / Glossary of things in the games would be VERY helpful in terms of : after i build a gate, fortress, etc : what the Hades do they do for my empire?, will they produce anything or become Independent systems that can get their own supplies........etc.
Anacreon could, for the single player at least, stand a little bit of Transcendence AI to take the manual tinkering off the player's hands in some cases.

The current game I have going has taken several nights, and it would be nice if you can set a planet to deploy fleets/troops and just deal with the them later, if the ships / battles were a little bit more action based.....the point and click thing gets really tiresome.

but that is just my complaining : the game, for what it IS , it IS nice, just very long ( so long as you are paying attention ) and that is another thing, attention : Attention on the Planet Earth is in not in big supply, I fear for the game in that respect.
I WOULD like it have more of an AI / Transcendence feel, but that could just be my longing for returning to my comfort zone.
I was never very good at BattleShip anyway.....I remember a boy next door when i was young that decided to save my pride by "mistakenly" knocking over the game and suggested we play a game of Cascade instead........I kicked his butt and took all his Hershey Kisses in that game :) he did not know i had Cascade in my basement ( which was a perfect place for that game ) and used to practice many times :)

My Ship's Computer says : "Well, don not I feel like a Venusian Redneck in space !"

And I kind of understand the feeling flying this strange universe as an Imperial Noob ..... So far I figured out that unless I stumple on to what the stargates might do , because they are not doing anything at the moment ; the disruptors are self explanatory to me , I just hope they are active if the area gets attacked....

the SRM fields seem cool, very easy to put out.......the Fortress and command bases are good, gives me a great place to move troops to when i got too many. However, unlike the bases and fortress, the Outpost does not move....but it is still useful.

Industrial complex, you would think i would have learned after loosing a fortress to stock the food supplies in them...... I lost 3 in a row before i could get the supply ships there : they were on the way but the complex still turned on me with food supply ships denied dock.
one complex: I totally did not understand how I needed 4 times the fleet I stationed to build it to take it back....then i realized, these things DON'T JUST MAKE STUFF.....they make FUEL ! ( but not food that i have seen yet )
so i now have my fuel needs being reduced because the complexes are producing fuel and ships are taking that to the places that need it . The Down side is that the complex has a side business in Baby-Making and i got to keep the Infantry off the station at every turn.
It is slow going trying to figure out what goes where, who needs what, how to get it there before there is a rebellion......turning dying resource planets into Universities has been a neat idea, it reduces the demand on both the planet and my fleets to keep tabs on that planet. Presently, after a week of playing this one system I have about 4 planets left, including the Rogue Homeworld, I am trying to get my empire back in working order as the building of the complexes takes awhile and I NOW know that I am going to need these in my NEXT game.

Yes, my next game. playing this game to learn it is nothing if I do not take what i learn and beat it to death. I am not interested in winning : I get no joy out of winning Transcendence, I love to PLAY it........this Anacreon......not excactly " me " but I set out to get a better understanding of it and learn more of it.....as manual as farm labor on a hot Georgia day... I can spend hours just trying to detail the fleets around and figure out the supply requirements for different planets and stations......and that is NOT being concerned with the hostile forces......add them back into the mix and i got a few days of thinking and tinkering around.....

What I think would be cool is if these remote stations or planets can detect transports within a particular range to give them the chance to get the supplies they are rebelling over : I can tolerate the manual labor, but a nice traffic system would be nice to handle distribution a little easier.....transports suddenly stop dead because they are not smart enough to refuel at the stations they go to....
A VERY different universe from Transcendence.....I would NOT want to escort a freighter that did not refuel itself at stops.....I got enough trouble keeping my own ships going......in transcendence the Explorer ship, Kate's ship requires fuel at a point of three..thats fine......but in Anacreon....I do not think i would want every transport in the system hitting me up for fuel. thats alot of ships!!!!!!!.

Good Evening Citizens, I am sure you are comfortable with your regular working hours, generous pay and food supplies from some exotic planets being shipped to your door.......but it was not always that way, was it ?.

890 years ago the capital planet made radio contact with the Planet TER. this eventually led to exchanges of information and both travel and trade between planets....but little did TER know how badly they would need their new friends.....

After several years the Rogue Fleets and Fortress arrived and one of their targets was the prosperous and peaceful planet of TER.
Our Capital Planet sent fleets to fight the Rogues but the Rogues were far advanced and many....
TER was captured and enslaved for more then 20 years.
Fleet after fleet was being built and deployed from the Capitol, and some simply destroyed without firing a shot, before the Capitol managed to force the Rogues back and defeat them, taking their Space Fortress and reclaiming the Age of Peace once more for the two planets.

Of course, you do not remember all that, it was far long ago.....However you may remember that the Fleets amassed beyond your planets and, for many of you, your planets have grown out of the forest and Jungles and other ages the fleets found you in...
Today, with our Industrial Complexes providing Fuel for our planets on a regular basis of shipments, food shipments from planets as far away as EM55 you do not think of those long nights in the factory building fighters and transports, you do not think of the Urgency that drove the Empire to secure your world from Hostile forces that might be stronger and do worse then TER experienced.....

Today is a good day, citizens, for today, after more then 50 years of Operation Paradise Protect, the Paradise planet is safe, the Hostile Planet Wuchang is finally beaten and the forces are heading to the Fortress for their journey Onward to new adventures.
As you know, the Empire has less then 2% of full time unemployment due to factors that prevent those citizens from working; but as part time workers they are still productive on the agriculture planets and those retired are our Heroes of Peace, for without their sacrifices we would not have our present comforts.

There is still much in the Universe to explore, the fleets are still being produced, maybe no longer on your planets as much as in the past, the Capitol rotates the base planets, rewarding good workers with Independence or Agriculture or, if you were real lucky, a University.......
Of course, you might ask , what the planet classes mean in terms of their letters, like a " class J " .......I do not know.
I know a Class M is cool for most applications, Underground and desert planets are great base planets that often get Universities as their service expires to the Fleets in their areas.
The building and managing the Industrial complexes are a full time job for some large fleets of with transports to keep the complex under control.
After the Complex, created and set to be a Trillium Mine gains 100% the fleets leave the transports to manage the Infantries as the Complex operates, so long as it has food ( and a little helping of chemicals and metal until it can make it's own ) can produce more then enough fuel for the local planets and fleets.
The art of building these complexes appears to be an amassing of transports stocked with food, chemical, metal..they begin ordering transports from every destination to bring supplies so that once the complex is ready they can get an almost regular flow of supplies until the supply route ships are set and moving..once the complex is built, the fleets deposit the materials and set the controls to "Trillium Mine" then every year they harvest the ships and Infantry and watch the station like a hawk.....I have seen complexes with as many as 10 thousand fighters around it , just to be sure that the complex inhabitants do not stray from their loyalty to the Capitol simply because the station can produce almost anything.......

You will notice that the latest news only speaks of One Fortress in the Capitol, and this is because of our recent history of Intergalactic build-ups and wars trying to protect weaker planets from the weapons and forces of those that might enslave them.....
with our longest campaign against Wuchang ended, many of those that were building ships will now be producing supplies for the constructions of Fortresses and Command Bases.....if your planet has a high drive for joining the Infantry, your recruits will be sent to these building stations and later staff them to guard your homes from some point among the stars......

To play the game itself is not much, but figuring out HOW to do as your told is another thing: there is nothing in the help or on the site that tells you anything: which is why I decided to run my fingers in this topic : and play these extremely LOOOOOOOOOOOONG games ( single player, the reason I came to Transcendence was that it was available Offline : Internet not associated with GCI in much of Alaska is very expensive and I moved outside of a GCI service area.

( I like Imploder or 7Zip, but have a copy of WinZip : I only use WinZip to zip files for upload, the other two deal with things i get )
Once Unzipped, the .Exe is in the folder with the .SCN files : I am not skilled in these file types so I cannot begin to understand them, so do not bother to ask me about that :)

Anyway: load a game : select an Empire name, gender : I have been learning the Rogue and that has usually started out with 2 friendly planets.
According to the Help File you need to convince your friendly planets to output as many ships as possible before the Rogues arrive.
click on the planet, then go to the menu to select World : designate the planet as you think best or leave it as is : I have found that Independent planets put out a good deal varieties but they take forever to gear up to full production : Base Planets are a little bit faster.
Import/Export Orders : I have been pushing my planets full tilt : 500 on Trillium, 200 on supplies, as 200 on Metal and chemicals ( not that it would matter, the planet either can push it or it don't, but usually I have seen good results ).
As you collect a fleet on each planet, deploy them ( click the planet : Fleet : Deploy ): try to build up and abort fleets to make a HUGE one : if your lucky you can have something worthy of fighting the Rogues when they arrive.
(( recently I lost a planet to the Rogues and after a constant battle of deploying fleets, firing LAMs and being stressed by the urgency to hold them back I did manage to save the HomeWorld and then take the Fortress : then reclaim the Once friendly planet and start an empire......but it is not always going to go that way, one game I got knocked off for Not producing enough ships and never once saw the Rogues. ))
Now, in the start, you have Trillium : and it is not much of a concern, but later it will be. a planet can put out ships like crazy but have no Fuel for the ships to do more then deploy. Around those points I have built Industrial Complexes , a Royal Pain of a station, but if you watch them like a Hawk and stay on the supply routes for them they can fuel your empire well.

everything in the game relies on point and click: and Enter ( or the OK button ) to do anything with a planet, fleet you need to click on them. deploying fleets is easy enough now, alot of fast fingers on the arrow keys to select everything then decide if the fleet gets transports/ cargo : the reason i say this part is because as your Empire gets rolling you will Not want to send out troops or fighters , you will want Transports and cargo. on a fuel supply route for close stations, 100 to 500 fuel cargo is plenty, the further the station the more stuff you want to send at once which means the more ships you want to use : if you deploy your transports the resulting troops recruitment will just start building on that station because there are no transports to take them off : I deal with that " later " by massing transports just for collecting troops and send them to the Command base / Fortress or just drop them on fleets sitting idle or waiting to attack ( if they are on the fleets they do not require supplies, fleets sitting idle and doing nothing do not require fuel or supplies : but once you want them to do something, you need to get them more fuel ). Supplies are important to planets and base stations like the Fortress / command base or Industrial Complex.....you have got to get them food or they will turn hungry and hostile.

Chemicals and Metals are for building ships and defenses : planetary defenses are good, but so far as a single player in Rogue I have not seen a need to let a station other then the mobile command base or fortress to actually have defenses once the Rogue Fortress is under my control ( because I have not been attacked by anything after that one battle )
Planet types : there are several but what the classification mean I am not sure or , just simply do not know : there was a mention of a " water world " i remember but the game does not tell you much as you go : a planet class "L" bites on Agriculture, so they get to build ships then turn into universities.
Desert , underground and Barren make good ship bases : Now you can select a few base types like " transport base " and that will be the most of what they produce : but originally I had an experience where the designation ran opposite and the planet did not produce that type.. but not since.

Hostile Life Planets : regardless of what you do the Natives are restless : but it is a population control as far as i can tell , no big deal.
I have one that is doing great, recruits about 20 Infantry a year, does Agriculture now : started out doing ships since they were loving it by the time I found them : then turned them to Ag to chill them out on bothering me after i took that area of planets.

I have locked onto the Industrial Complexes as Trillium Mines , annoying until they hit 100% with plenty of food, constantly pulling Infantry off the station : but as an independent station they can replicate a good productive planet. I have set some planets to Trillium Mines, but they were not as good as the Complexes for production, but they were less stressful to monitor.

Outposts, great spot to stash troops and ships, bad idea if you want mobile : command bases and fortresses are mobile. you can move more fleets on these with less fuel, it is very sweet.
