To quote the wiki (I put it up anyways simply so I wouldn't forget it)
If your mod over-writes vanilla content, it should clearly say that it does this. If it is NOT a TC (total conversion), it should say what it over-writes. This will help cut down on conflicting mods, and help people determine if a mod is causing a bug or if it is Transcendence itself.
Basically, all we need now is D1gdugs approval and bimble's approval too (they probably will approve of it, though bimble will probably touch-up my wording :D); Alterecco and Taben are already in agreement with this.

I would still like community input on this; so feel free to suggest changes/comments/whatever!

this is just a suggestion no one is going to take down a mod just because the mod maker forgot to put in what it over writes.
Crying is not a proper retort!

Perhaps something as simple as:
-"Overwrites many resources"
-"Overwrites armor dealers"
-"Overwrites &dsExchangeBuy;"

Maybe there should be a breakdown in an included readme.txt file with each vanilla UNID that is overwritten?

Personally, when I mod I disable every other mod until mine is working but for people download and playing other's it would be very confusing trying to dig through dozens of mods to find the duplicated/overwritten mod.
Coming soon: The Syrtian War adventure mod!
A Turret defense genre mod exploring the worst era in Earth's history.
Can you defend the Earth from the Syrtian invaders?
Stay tuned for updates!

 Yeah; there's no way this could be a true rule per say; it's just something we STRONGLY RECOMMEND people do to make everyone's lives easier.

If you don't do it, don't expect any help from me when you realize that you are conflicting with something. :P

Add-ons are excluded; they only add, not over-write.

I would never remove a mod for that, and i've already been pushing people to put meaningful descriptions and explicitly say if the mod over-writes vanilla content.
So, it's thumbs up for me.

Perhaps there should be a special field for overridden UNIDs and dependencies that moderators can access as well as the uploader.

That would probably take bmbl some time to add in, depending on his schedual, and if he feels up to it or not.
At any rate though, simply stating it in the description or comment will work fine for the time being.

Good question. What metadata is TMU interested in and what's the format?

That's currently in 0.9.5.0, not the current release; at the moment [in the dev version; .94a doesn't have this yet], it only displays conflicting mods (and dependancies too) when specified in the metadata, I haven't programmed it to change the enable/disable status of the mod in question yet.
