Woah. That sounds like some serious legal content. So are you expecting in game to dock to a St. Kats arcology, only to be confronted by a recently revived Pilgrim saying "I'm suing you for making me detonate myself with Shrike's mines. You owe me 100000 creds to pay for my insurance."
Of course, that would only happen when George's 24th century Commonwealth descendant finally makes Trans multi player. Although you would stop playing the game as you hear Domina's voice...

I only meant to protect ourselves in case someone's mega-computer crashes because they used a mod I/someone else reccommended.

Using a mod should mean that they take responsibility for what happens to their computer, like what Trans says for itself, which is something to the effect of:
if you use this, and it kills the computer, its your fault.

True, but it pays to have this kind of stuff in words anyway - and Xelerus doesn't have that kind of disclaimer afaik.

Its implied, but I could imagine the legal guard. However, I don't think any mod can damage a computer even though a legal view.

We can mess around until we make one that can......but I suspect that that would be counterproductive. :P

Also: I did a disclaimer for SM&M anyway. It's buried in my garden under a gnome, but you are assumed to have read it if you download the mod. :twisted:

Mods can crash / lock up the computer under certain conditions. You may lose unsaved data but no permanent damage.

For example tell the game spawn a ship with the ship xml saying it is escorted by itself. :twisted:

Not really

Code: Select all

<ShipClass="&scShip;"...

<Escorts>
        <Ship count="1" class="&scShip;" orders="escort"/>
</Escorts>
</ShipClass>
That means the ship is escorted by itself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself who is himself escorted by himself on and on forever. For some reason the computer can't compute infinity... :twisted:

It's not up to us to determine what is or isn't permanent damage or what may be classed as bad damage by an individual. Whilst I agree that any lasting or permanent damage is almost impossible, it's a good practice to provide a legal escape clause for us. You never know if you'll get some person, in the future who has a computer crash because he used a dodgy mod and comes looking for someone to accuse. So for that reason, Xelerus ought to have the Disclaimer page and I figured it would be useful to have a quick one here as well.

I tried that. I imagine pandora's box looked kind of like that when it was opened. Absolute chaos until the game crashes. >.>

On that train of thought I will also add that a crashed application that then goes on to freeze up some guy's old Windows 98 Pentium II, which then blows up the old CPU and means he can't work until he fixes it is another (unlikely) disaster scenario.
