Getting Started with Modding

Post by george moromisato » Fri Aug 29, 2014 10:48 pm

Our very own Pixelfck has written a wonderful tutorial for beginning modders:

http://trans.kronosaur.com/guidePage.hexm?id=938

If you've ever wanted to get into modding Transcendence, this is a great place to start. And I think even some experts will gain insight from reading his well-thoughtout descriptions.

The image for how armor graphics work seems a bit blurry for me. Other than that, looking good.

The tutorial has been updated. list of changes:
  • You can now download the article as a pdf-file with syntax highlighting,
  • the article now includes the original armor HUD texture template-image for download,
  • an updated (non-blurry) armor rotation diagram,
  • some cosmetic changes.
Enjoy,
Pixelfck

FYI: Made this thread sticky so that people can find it as a link to the tutorial.

That tutorial is really good, and I learned a lot from it, but it uses API 22, while the current API is 28 or 29.

If you combine that article with the information in the February Monthly Mod Jam thread, you'll probably run into fewer roadblocks.
