heh the new media is horrible with science news.

the really cool stuff will happen when they start doing high-energy collisions on October 21 2008

lots of cool stuff will hopefully will come out of it

The local news about the LHC was extremely disappointing.

I agree, can't wait til the big experiments happen.

they just tested the proton beam, we have to wait a few weeks more for the fireworks :D

yeah, didnt expect them to do the interessting stuff right at start ...
anybody knows what experiment they did ? just a test run ?

I wonder if a micro-blackhole can really be that dangerous ...

What do you think about the endless stream of spawns ?

What about modding wandering spawns which dont attack the player directly ?

no a micro black hole will not be dangerous

if hawking radiation is true it will not last long enough to do anything and even if it isn't the thing will be so small that it will have a hard time interacting with anything and mostly osculate near the earths core (remember atoms are mostly empty space and a micro black hole is super tiny)
oh and that just because it is a black hole doesn't mean much from where we are, it will still have the same gravitational power as the things that created it had

They just shot two seperate beams (first clockwise then ccw) with low energy (350GeV while the aim is 7TeV) to get the "closed circle"

The tedious work is to concentrate the milliards a protons now to denser packets and raise the energie levels.

Steven Hawkins bets $100 that the LHC won't find the Higgs boson.

On 19 September 2008, the operations were halted due to a serious fault between two superconducting bending magnets. Due to the time required to repair the resulting damage and to add additional safety features, the LHC is scheduled to be operational in mid-November 2009.
