That the modding board seems to be the most active on this site? ^^ :)

I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but it does show that this game's community is disproportionately composed of mod makers (probably since its so easy and simple to mod, not to mention enjoyable)

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who plays more than I mod.

Could be evidence that the game is more fun to build stuff for than it is to play. Personally I'm starting to find the game a bit redundant now that I've played through it several times, and I'm eager to find new ways to spice things up.

Randomized or not, it still inevitably boils down to flying from one planet after another, taking out enemy bases, looting them, finding somewhere to sell the loot, and saving up for better equipment.

The best parts of the game by far are the missions (assuming things don't glitch up and prevent you from accomplishing them). Even rescue runs for mining colonies is fun in Eridani, but I think Korolov is the most fun at the beginning of the game. So far trying to get into the Black Market stuff hasn't been much fun. The various missions for the military installations were fun too, although it'd be better if it wouldn't give you the same mission twice in a row.

(I haven't found all that many missions in the game, though I'm sure there's more.)

Its much more fun to play with the feeling that you're trying to help people out than it is to just randomly fly around blasting "bad guys". However, avenues for this seem to be limited and the more you do them, the less fun they become. So naturally, knowing that the game is modable, people would want to create more of what they liked...

At least, that's my take on it. Needless to say, I want more missions. I think every star system should have at least 3-4 missions to do, and missions to go blow stuff up don't count. I can do that anyway.

But going from building player ships to building missions is more than a big step.

agree. more mission will be nice.

i mean, it's a strange thing to see someone using a spaceship cruising around a solar system blastin' everyone in it's path...

XD especially when more powerful military ships could have done that long ago... (or even other civilian ships)

Which goes back to the other thread on mission wingmen being useful... Actually I think the Korolov pirate base attacks at the beginning of the game are the only ones where the other ships can actually be helpful instead of just cannon fodder.

But the way that this game is setup where the power of the player's ship seems to grow exponentially is kind of doomed to that... Kind of a side effect to being a rogue-like at heart.

Wingmen are actually useful in one mission: Escort refugees. They can stand up to Sandstorms, and unlike you they don't have a tendancy to blow up refugee ships while trying to kill them.

ORLY?

not in my experience :P (I hate that mission: those EI100's die like hornets or centauri...)

Yes. Try putting them on break and attack. You can fire on incoming groups to thin them out, and the centurions will take care of the wounded without blowing all the refugees to pieces like I inevitably do without them.

Not as much as I do. Not by a long shot. Rapid fire, long range, passthrough weapon against small unshielded targets == not healthy for refugees. Or I could use the weapon that kills refugee ships in one hit. That's allways an option. All sorts of good ways to kill refugees.

Idiots shouldn't be flying through a warzone in such fragile ships.

You mean, smart people. Idiots would do exactly that.

though yes, I see your point, and I've pointed that out so many times before...
