Firefox 4 is now out - get it here.

Bizarrely, if you are on 3.6 or so, it won't tell you the version is available...I only found out through Wikipedia that it was released a few days ago. It looks nice and flash, and supposedly has a whole bunch of new security, privacy and ease-of-use tweaks, and more importantly, is one of the "next generation" browsers, which means it can now display CSS3 features, among other things.

Actually it will tell you... after you download the most recent update (3.6.16) for 3.6.X --- you still have to manually download & install 4.0 though.

Thread split.

Really? I find its significantly faster than FF3.X (except on my low-ram systems, which run EVERYTHING slowly)

I'm finding it more or less the same, maybe a tad faster.

However, ditching the menu bar and throwing tabs into the title bar is really nice, and the new Sync feature makes it much easier for me to work on both my machine and my wife's computer out in the living room.

If anyone has v3 addons that haven't been updated, there's a simple workaround:

- In the location bar, type "about:config" (without the quotes)
- Click the "I understand that I could break my Firefox" OK button
- Right-click and choose to create a new Boolean setting
- Name it "extension.checkCompatibility.4.0" (again without the quotes) and set it to false

This will disable Firefox's ability to turn off your addons if they're from an old version. Depending on the addon, it's possible that this might cause problems, but I have a bunch and they're all working fine. If it is a problem, go back in and change the setting to true.

not all updated ones actually work. Thought yeah, I know of that trick, having used it early in the beta.

I've got it.

It's pretty cool - you get to see far, far more of the webpages now, everything is more streamlined....the bookmarks toolbar is a bit off, but if you leave autoprompt on, it will suggest a site when you type into the "awesome bar".

Upgrading is a dream - no uninstall neccessary, and it keeps everything - cookies, passwords, privacy settings from FF 3.x when you upgrade. It's pretty neat, and themes now seem to work better with it too.

Basically, it makes the internet more of the focus, rather than the browser and all of it's tabs and menus. It's well worth the tiny (12mb) download. :D

For a true "more internet, less browser" experience, try the Pentadactyl addon :)

There will be no "Firefox 11" release - its rolling releases like Chrome now.

Sure, fullscreen is nice, but i does not give you the control that pentadactyl does :)
