Scientists have invented an x-ray laser that can heat matter to over 3.6 million degrees (°F,°C,K wasn't specified, but who cares!). Hopefully they'll make a second one and figure out how to make the beams both x-ray and purple visible light at the same time.

Indeed. I can at least say I remember you from back then ;)

Nice to have you back.

Indeed, it's been a while. My computer is too old to run transcendence on it. The processor overheats and dies. When I get a new computer, the first thing going on it is... Rollercoaster Tycoon 2. But the second program will be Transcendence.

Wolfy, where's the like button for your comment?

Hope everyone has clear horizons and the wind at your back.

Have you tried cleaning your computer out? Dust is the common cause of overheating. Just get a compressed air canister from a computer store and blow the dust out. Far cheaper than a new computer.

Indeed I have cleaned my computer recently, Atar. Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks after I bought this laptop (think first laptops to come out with dual layer burning ~2004), I left it in range of the kid sister while I was out. She started it up, the BIOS password appeared, she panicked and closed the lid. The computer couldn't go to sleep mode and cooked itself all night. It's had overheat issues ever since. I played transcendence in community college by sitting in the ice cold library.

Its thermal paste (easy to remove (esp. by twisting or sliding, but don't make a mess, it is slightly electrically conductive), most often used on CPUs and GPUs nowadays), or thermal cement (for the glue-like one, which is hard to remove and may damage the die underneath, but generally never needs to be removed or upgraded, often used in ye'olden days of beige boxes), not glue.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it soon. I use my computer for school classes, so I can't try new repairs until I have a break in assignments. I've got French and Spanish night classes this semester. Can't wait till everyone switches over to galactic Basic.

Welcome back!

As for broken computers, since everyone has provided a useful answer. Perhaps try a Hammer.
