So, before we begin adding new ranks, I'd like to get some input and suggestions on them; later today I'll add in the new list I brainstormed up on IRC last night, prior to making this forum
One of our goals is to showcase some of george's new ships, added in since version .99 (thus including the new 1.0 ships too)
We would also like to provide ranks up through a higher number, if even then only to stimulate posting; the more people posting we can get the better! It's also a nice way to showcase some for the later-game ships as well.
Also, one of the proposals involves putting the transcendence logo back into george's rank, as it was back on the Unofficial Transcendence Forums. He /is/ the developer afterall.

Don't be so sure, stimulating posts can get silly. We might end up with people replying to ever message but nothing productive being repyies.

Obviously there has to be a little logic in what we allow though for increases in posts.
Heh, true, of course within reason (ie, not spamming like crazy) - and we can always delete spammy posts individually without the need to actually reprimand anyone other than asking them nicely to please stop, no banning or strict enforcement necessary. Even then, it's pretty leniant what people can post already. Just not saying "I see." to EVERY SINGLE THREAD ON THE BOARD. [Yeah, I've had a guy do that before. And then I told him to stop. And then he stopped.]

Well, I suppose we can delete it but thats a pain to manage honestly, though it should not be too difficult although we just have to keep an eye out ofr Chat-on-Forums type thing meaning if we see users talking wiht short messages in a thread it would likely need to move somewhere else. Maybe thats just me though.

haha! thats not what I mean! I'm saying that people should not use the forums threads for miniature conversations - one or two words long. Its not a big deal really and it keeps the thread going but it shouldn't be the only thing that is going on in the forums. Anyway, what new ranks are you considering and how would they be grouped, by posts and status or just post? I'm not sure if you can do it on PHPbb but it would be neat if you could do by status (eg admin, moderator, etc) and posts. that would allow the most display of the new ships.
Each class of users (admin, moderators, tinkers, and users) has a different set of ships to use this gives the groups more variety to see the different ships and groups in the game.
Yeah, I'd have to do it completely manually... I mean, I can do it, but it would be a bit... cumbersome. Maybe if each of the admins/moderators/tinkerers picked a thematically appropriate ship and I made them a custom rank, and sent the images to george to upload along with the images for the ranks for the normal users? (quoted from myself in IRC)
Well, I think that a lot of your suggestions are great, but very innefficient or impossible on phpbb2, but are possible on newer forum systems, such as SMF or PHPBB3.
At the moment though, george has not made any official announcements on his opinion of doing a forum upgrade, so I'm waiting in a large part for that.
The plot of the game surrounds Domina, the Sisters, and the player being on a pilgrimage so why not use semi-religious connotative ranks?
1 Initiate
2 Adept
3 Bishop
4 Cardinal
5 Prophet
Obviously then Prophet would have to be the highest rank, so I'll see you all when you get there!

I'd like it to be able to show off some of the ships, sort of like how it does now, but more extensively. With more specific controls in systems like SMF, these things would be relatively simple actually.
I have absolutely no idea if that's possible, but it would be neat.
