Hi, everyone,

I've got some rather bad news. There have been some radical changes at pastebin.com, and transcendence.pastebin.com is no more.

After reading their announcement regarding the changes:

http://pastebin.com/v3.php

I sent them an email asking if anything could be done so that we could continue to use the pastebin as a community resource, and recover our old pastes.

I received two emails from them. Since the second email quotes the first and my original email, I will just paste the second email here:
If you get an account for your group, you can: http://pastebin.com/paste_finder.php there type in transcendence and import all those pastes to your own pastebin.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your email.

You can still post privately, if you are not a member, but you will not be able to edit/delete your pastes, or put store it in a list of somekind.

For you team you could buy a PRO account. You can all use that account at the same time, and paste in your private pastebin that nobody else but your team can see. All pastes set to private in your pastebin will then only show up for people you allow access to. This could be perfect for what you need. Further more, you get a lot of other options that normally you wouldnt get.http://pastebin.com/pro

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I am with a group of modders who work on a game called Transcendence. We had a subdomain on pastebin so that anyone who came to our group with a question about modding could be directed to paste their code on that transcendence.pastebin.com and we could all help them with their code problem. We could also sort through past Transcendence pastes and see if someone had the same question we had.

So, now with the new login system, it appears that this service has become useless, as all we can do without an account is paste publicly, which defeats the purpose of having all Transcendence pastes in one location. To further complicate things, the new requrement for an account and login does not seem to allow this same collaborative atmosphere, as each person who wants to paste would need to have an account (unless I'm missing something in what you said in your description of the changes). There is no way now that one of us can look through all Transcendence-related pastes to see what was done, as everything is compartmentalized into accounts.

Also, you speak of being able to recover subdomain pastes, how would this work? Would each person who pasted need to create an account, then hope that he could recover the pastes he did using the same ID, while all anonymous pastes are lost? Or, is there a way we can create some common account and transfer all pastes made to that subdomain to that new account?

Do you have a solution for us, or do we need to find another site to use for collaboration?

By the way, it still looks, from their reply, like members of our "group" would need to have some kind of account in order to edit their pastes, or save them, or have access to it. So, it still wouldn't work for someone who dropped into the irc channel and wanted to paste us some code he was working on.

Perhaps emails from other members of the community would be good (no angry ones, please, just queries for clarification).

From their email it would seem that non-registered users can still post content, but cant edit/delete it. Not so bad, but not good either.

My suggestion would be to skip pastebin.com. There are lots of other good free pastebins out there. We could even set up our own if someone wanted to run it. pastebin.com have been getting more and more commercial over the years, so personally I would not mind finding another service.

I agree with alterecco, what about trying LodgeIt!, since we already used it in the past ?

Well I got the server and I can certainly host it, just let me know. :)

Also the shared account on pastebin.com will be made to the public once I backup all the data stored (we are talking somewhere along the lines of 600 posts) so it might take a little bit.

If getting a PRO account would solve the problem, let me know. I'm not opposed to paying for it (it seems like it would only be $30 per year).

But I don't know if a PRO account would solve the problems (I think we would all have to log in under the same account--but I'm not sure).

Oh wow, your quite generous. Thanks for being so willing to support the community, but in all honest, I'm not sure if the pro account would do us well as it can be used only by 100 other people. Which is certainly usable, but I think the better option would be to host our own pastebin. Perhaps get DNS setup for pastebin.transcendence-game.com? :)

I'm attempting to setup http://paste.pocoo.org/ however it is a custom python server type thing which refuses to load a class that I need. Once that is fixed I will be able to host it. However feel free to give it a shot - its open source. :)

Ok. Attempt succeeded ttech.dyndns.info:5000 - it works, it runs, just want to iron out a few kinks (such as pygments)
