With George working on Trans and Anacreon full time, what goals, as a community, should we be setting for the end of 2012?
Here are some of my ideas:

Xelerus
-updating the functions regularly
-getting Quality Assurance people tagging mods

wiki
-getting it organized (especially by namespace)
-making it useful (I don't usually go there unless its the legend or events page, the wiki should be used by everyone- modders and players alike)

forums
-should we be promoting more people?

IRC
-getting more people to idle there, of course

what should we as a community be working towards?
A great project would be a trailer to introduce new people to the game? It would be a great community endeavor.

I think we should be possibly moving functions to the wiki to keep it centralized.
The namespace should be easy enough to solve, it just needs to be pushed and poked a bit to get it done.

Both the forums and IRC are needing users - however IRC is much harder to get users to (because of idle and the way it is live) so we can focus to that and the forums I imagine will expand as well as the users grow in one (it usually spills over easier).

I think as a community personally, we can be working on ways to promote the game its self - youtube pages and such. We can also work toward a startup adventure / system where people can get a feel for the game.

Anyway cheers!

I would like to see more documentation (and plan on writing some), and all documentation effort moving to a site like what readthedocs.org produces (sphinx documentation projects). Here is an example of a sphinx document http://python-guide.readthedocs.org/en/ ... index.html. The code python docs are also written in Sphinx http://docs.python.org/

I like this approach for the beauty of the work you produce, the control over formatting it provides, the search indexing and table of contents. It seems more like a finished work than something haphazardly thrown together. Of course it is a large amount of work, but a lot of what is on the wiki can be ported if it is cleaned up and structured a bit better.

Development would take place in a gitrepo hosted by KP and controlled by George (he could add more contributors with push rights as he saw fit).

Other than that i like the points RPC makes.

Wiki: i also only go there for the legends page. I think the wiki is largely a mess and it is hard to find what you are looking for. The theme is also boring, and it is rather slow. Personally i would not mind a reboot of the wiki (we would archive the old one of course)

Trac: It is slooooooooooow!!!! (for me at least). Is there something we can do to help here George? Do you need assistance regarding server setup? I know that both Ttech and I are competent server admins, and I am sure we would both be willing to help.

Forums: we are already talking about restructuring the forums, and that is going to be interesting. On top of that i think we should review our sticky posts and get many of them folded into one post. Some concise FAQ or something. Also, am i the only one who think that posts quickly get lost? I am not sure what to do about it, but sometimes i feel that we have too many posts on similar topics, and that must be because the previous ones get lost. I am not an avid forum user, so perhaps that is normal and unavoidable (and fine).

Trailer: I think this is an awesome idea! I would love to see some well edited intro video or something for T. Don't know if i can help, but I am willing to do some work there.

In general i think the community is doing quite well, and i am sure that we will only get bigger as KP gets born and we go forward. In some ways it is to our advantage that we are /not/ bigger at this time, since it makes it easier for us to restructure before a larger growth.

I made this a little faster about a month ago--check it out if you haven't. It's still not blazing, of course, but a bit better.

[I think the speed problem is simply that it is on an underpowered machine. It's used to be on a 256 MB VM on Rackspace. I upgraded it to a 512 MB VM, which made it faster. Once the company starts making money I can upgrade to a 1 GB VM.]

Perhaps that many active/idle users on IRC might be nice as well. :)

hitting 60 users on IRC would be cool (maintaining the notion that it doubles in size.)

Add "Have all Transcendence lore in one place" under the wiki ;)
Preferably indexed too.

Btw, how do you change the theme of the wiki? It's been a while.... (that and we need a great wiki for all the newbies to Transcendence for George's KP- great wikis always help ;) )

Ok, I just looked at the wiki again-- complete mess.
Here's an example.
Yes, although the information was there, it was in a very hard to read format.
Maybe we need to set up a dedicated team to admin the wiki. <--- admittedly though, that is in itself very hard to do though. :/

It seems reasonable, but we would need someone to head up that project once the wiki namespaces were updated - which I hope will be soon!
They would need to make sure the wiki links are valid, that we had a proper (and used) guideline on what to post (and formatting).

Also, in addition to a modding/ script style page, we need a style page for the wiki.

We now just need a road map, and even perhaps some kind of time line? Though a list of goals would help as much.

George has been using the Trac as a sort of roadmap, though it doesn't always show everything (ie, what he intends to do that other people have yet to suggest)

Nice to have you back btw ;)

So.... we could add a wiki milestone (or two) and start putting tickets on the trac.

And then with a well formatted wiki as the goal we can venture forth and fix. :D

And its always good to be back Wolfy.
